Zoinos Winery

Nestled in the historic region of Zitsa, Greece, Zoinos Winery stands as a testament to the innovation and dedication of local vintners.

The winery’s journey began in 1954, when a group of visionary grape growers established the first small winery in Zitsa. This initiative was further bolstered by the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Ioannina, which, in 1974, founded the first modern winery in Northwestern Greece. By 1972, the wines from Zitsa’s vineyards, particularly those made from the white Debina grape variety, had already achieved recognition as PDO Zitsa wines under Greek law.

In June 2006, the winery took a decisive step forward, separating from the Union and emerging as ZOINOS WINERY.

Today, the company has evolved into a modern, fully equipped facility with both a winery and a distillery in Zitsa, and has expanded with a distribution center and customer service hub in Ioannina, as well as a subsidiary winery in the Patras wine region.

Their dedicated team ensures that the winery produces high-quality wines while also driving its steady export growth. The winery has developed an extensive sales network within Greece and established significant export connections, particularly in the United States and Canada. The recent completion of a new production unit and a modern distribution center marks the company’s ambitious plans to enter new markets such as Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Poland, and the United Kingdom.

Central to ZOINOS WINERY’s successes are its collaborations with local grape growers who, with the guidance of the winery’s experts, employ modern cultivation methods. These efforts are focused on both native varieties—Debina, Vlachiko, and Bekari—and international ones like Chardonnay, Traminer, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. The winery manages 250 acres of organic vineyards dedicated to indigenous varieties and maintains an experimental vineyard where 28 regional grape varieties are tested for their adaptability, wine potential, and the creation of new wines.

On the research front, ZOINOS WINERY is engaged in three key projects. Two of these involve documenting, studying, and producing propagation material from Epirus grape varieties, conducting experimental vinifications, and examining their wine characteristics. The third project focuses on product traceability, ensuring the quality and authenticity of their wines.
