Collaros opens as the favorite
Zach Collaros (+245) passed for 4,183 yards with 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2022. The Blue Bombers also brought back one of his favorite targets in the offseason. All-star wideout Kenny Lawler joins a loaded receiving corps that already featured 16-touchdown man Dalton Schoen, Nic Demski, and Rasheed Bailey.
Quarterbacks have claimed the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award in six of the past seven seasons. And Winnipeg is poised to be one of the league’s top teams yet again as they aim for their third Grey Cup trophy in four years.
“He’s (Kenny Lawler) just a great receiver”

Other MOP contenders
Bo Levi Mitchell (+500) is a two-time Most Outstanding Player of the Year, however, those wins came back in 2016 and 2018. After a disappointing final season in Calgary, the 33-year-old hopes to lead Hamilton to its first championship since 1999, the longest drought in the CFL. Working in his favor is a talent-rich Ticats offense with receiver Tim White and 1,000-yard back James Butler.
Chad Kelly (+550) led the Argos to a 2022 Grey Cup victory after replacing injured starter McLeod Bethel-Thompson in the fourth quarter. The nephew of former Buffalo Bills great Jim Kelly has limited experience in the league, but looked good in his first preseason game, completing four of five passes for 105 yards.
Quarterback question marks
Jake Maier (+650) is the new starter in Calgary after the team sent Levi Mitchell packing. The Californian won six-of-nine starts for the Stampeders last season, throwing for 14 TDs and 7 INTs with a 74.7 completion percentage.
Jeremiah Masoli (+800) suffered a season-ending knee injury in just his fourth game with Ottawa last year. While the 34-year-old has the talent, he’s suited up in just 19 games since 2018. The REDBLACKS have also been one of the CFL’s worst franchises of late, topping out with four wins in three of their last four campaigns.

Best Bets
Trevor Harris (+850) is one of seven CFL quarterbacks starting for a new team this year. According to PFF, no QB recorded a higher passing grade from Week 14 onward in 2022. While the 37-year-old Roughrider is long in the tooth, he’s also the league’s all-time leader in completion percentage.
Cody Fajardo (+800) is reuniting with former offensive coordinator Jason Maas in Montreal. Given that the 31-year-old led the CFL in passing yards in 2019 with Saskatchewan, he’s a sneaky bet to put up big numbers in Maas’ high-flying Alouettes offense.
