Young Boys vs Sion Prediction: Hosts to get off to a winning start
Swiss Super League champions Young Boys get their title defence underway on Sunday (13:15) as they entertain newly-promoted Sion at Wankdorf Stadium. The visitors were title winners in their own right last season, and they will be hoping that they can adjust back into the top-flight with ease following promotion from the Challenge League.
Although, they will expect a tough test in this opener. Read on for my Young Boys vs Sion prediction, featuring match odds and team news.

Both teams to score can be backed at 8/11 and over 2.5 goals is on offer at 8/15.
Team News
The reigning champions have made three transfers so far this summer, with Ebrima Colley, Facinet Conte and Tanguy Zoukrou coming in to bolster their ranks from Atalanta, SC Bastia and Troyes respectively.
We could see all three make their league debuts for the Bern-based club on Sunday, but caretaker boss Joel Magnin could opt to stick with his familiar faces to give the new recruits time to bed in.
Sion have brought in two new faces of their own this summer in defender Noe Sow and forward Dejan Djokic. The latter arrived Challenge League side Vaduz, whom he scored 14 goals for in the league last season. He will be hoping to make the step-up for the top-flight and show what he can do in his new surroundings.
Young Boys and over 2.5 goals @ 19/20
When it comes to the first game of the season and the defending champions are home, you expect them to win as a formality. When they are at home to a team that has just been promoted to their division, the expectancy grows.
That is the case with Young Boys in this curtain-raiser, and I think they will want to get the ball rolling swiftly as they aim for a third consecutive title in 2024/25. Of course Sion cannot be underestimated. They head into this season off the back of a title win of their own. It may not be to the pedigree of the Super League but it is still a title, and they scored a whopping 72 goals along the way.
Young Boys themselves netted 76 last term, so both sides boast a lot of firepower heading into this match. Seeing as the top-flight has been Young Boys’ domain for several years, I think they will have too much for their opponents in this opener, but I do think we will be treated to a few goals. It’s worth noting that over 2.5 goals has landed in five of the hosts’ last six league fixtures.
Both teams to score – Yes @ 8/11
Following on from that previous point, both teams showed a lot of quality in the final third last year, and although the start of the season doesn’t tend to offer you a glimpse of teams at their peak, I still think these two teams can put on a show.
It was 2022/23 when Sion were last in the Super League and it was a dismal year in which they were relegated. In their last 10 away matches in this division, they have conceded, which bodes well for Young Boys as they bid to get off to a flying start. However, I do see Sion scoring too.
They will have built up a lot of momentum with last year’s title win in the Challenge League, and as I have already mentioned, they scored a lot of goals. I think that we will see both teams get on the scoresheet in this one.
