York 1.50

Aidan O’Brien won this back in 2018 with Fairyland and looks to have a great chance again here in the shape of the promising CHERRY BLOSSOM. This well built filly looked to need the experience when only fourth on debut at Naas but left that well behind to win impressively at the Curragh earlier this month. She was always travelling in her comfort zone on that occasion and bounded into the lead under just hands and heels before going clear.

She is clearly quite an exciting proposition and with further improvement a near certainty she might follow up here and take this valuable pot. Relief Rally is very talented and was impressive at Newbury but the extra furlong poses a different question. She still looks the danger. Symbology is another one still capable of better so worth noting too.

York 2.25

With a maximum field of 22 set to go to post I have had a couple of bets in this. The first being the unbeaten DRAGON LEADER who has won both of his starts at Salisbury. His debut has worked out really well already and with Ryan Moore booked he will likely go close.

At at an each way price PERSICA for Richard Hannon who has dominated this race over the last 10 years looks a solid bet. His debut didn’t go to plan but when dropped to this trip and breaking well he put in a much better performance. A repeat of that would see him right in the mix and with likely improvement to come as well he could be even better. Ziggy’s Condor is the main danger and fav at the time of writing after a nice debut win that is working out well and has clearly been saved for this.

York 3.00

Some big prices have won this down the years and that tells you how tough it can be to find the winner. I have backed 3 against the field all at each way prices. My main hope will be last year’s winner BLUE FOR YOU despite carrying top-weight. He ran out an impressive winner over C&D last month and that form has substance. He is 9lb higher than last year but is much more the finished article now and I’m willing to forgive that run at Goodwood last time. I think he is a must for any shortlist.

The other two that appeal are headed by TERWADA who is an unexposed 3yo. He has won his last two including on handicap debut at Newmarket latest and carrying a 6lb penalty he might surprise a few. The other one I like is EILEAN DUBH who loves this track. He has run here 4 times and has form figures of 11-11 (eleven, blew out) 3. That latest third was behind Blue For You and despite fluffing his lines at Goodwood I think he’ll get involved too at decent odds.

York 3.35

This is a cracking renewal of the Yorkshire Oaks with plenty of the tops fillies lining up. I am keen on the 3 year olds with the weight allowance and SAVETHELASTDANCE gets a narrow vote after really catching the eye at the Curragh last time when winning the Irish Oaks. She is clearly a classy filly if it doesn’t develop into a sprint like it did in the Epsom Oaks. She showed how well she stayed at the Curragh after being outpaced she flew home. I think there will be enough pace to bring her superior stamina into play and she is the one to beat.

Bluestocking is the main danger as I think she is still improving after finishing second behind the selection last time and third at Royal Ascot. Of the older horses Free Wind has disappointed me this year but could bounce back at a track she has won at before.

York 4.10

I thought SEA THEME would be clear fav for this so the 5/1 on offer at the time of writing could be worth snapping up. This Sea The Stars filly was only beaten a length on debut and that form has been well advertised since with the winner Mistral Star winning impressively at Salisbury and even the fourth Decoration going in at Windsor since.

She duly improved next time out when well backed to make the breakthrough at Doncaster last month and you’d have to love the way she asserted in the closing stages. She is obviously open to further improvement and could be a nice prospect going forward. Modaara disappointed on last start at Haydock but still retains potential and could be the danger but might need rain. One Evening is a good yardstick and is also respected.

York 4.45

This race is always tough with plenty improving a lot in this contest. ARAGON CASTLE is the one I quite like though with his win at Epsom working out nicely. Andrew Balding also has one of the best records for horses running in handicaps for the first time which makes him appeal even more. I think he will be bang there at the finish.

Expert Choice finally got off the mark last time and is likely still improving. He rates the main danger. Redblue Sovereign at a much bigger price appeals after a win last time and I think he might just be a late bloomer and will go well.

York 5.20

A field of 19 currently head to post but I like the chances of NIGIRI for Ralph Beckett. This Lope De Vega filly caught the eye when third behind Tiffany and has improved to win twice since. She is open to further improvement and up just 5lb should run a big race under Hector Crouch.

Unequal Love is likely to go off favourite having won her last 3 and she beat a good yardstick in Diamond Vega last time. If she improves again she will likely fight it out with the selection. Of the rest Sophia’s Starlight catches the eye following that Ripon win but this comes soon enough.
