• New York Mets vs. New York Yankees
• Wednesday, June 14 at 7:10PM ET
• Citi Field in Queens, New York
It’s back! Whenever the New York Mets and New York Yankees face off, there’s always excitement. This is the ‘Subway Series’ that people love to see, as the two NY MLB clubs are always ready to put on a show. The two sides will meet for a short two-game set, but the intrigue is through the roof there. With that set, the Yankees are favored to beat the Mets on Wednesday night and people across the planet will be following this one closely.
Why, you ask? Because Gerrit Cole will be taking the bump going up against Justin Verlander. This is the kind of pitching matchup that has battle written all over it. Both of these guys are among the highest-paid players in the game. With these two taking the bump on Wednesday night at Citi Field, the fans on hand in Queens are going to expect both of them to live up to the hype.

Yankees to win | -115 | -115 | -115 | -115 |
Mets to win | +125 | +125 | +125 | +125 |
Over to hit | -110 | -110 | -110 | -110 |
Under to hit | -110 | -110 | -110 | -110 |
There are plenty of bragging rights on the line, but these two teams also want to catch fire a bit before the All-Star Weekend arrives in Seattle. Both the Mets and Yankees entered the season with high expectations for this campaign, but they’ve been a bit inconsistent both at the plate and with their pitching. It’s not something that a lot of people figured would be the case for the powerhouses.
According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, the Yankees hold -110 MLB betting odds to post a win on Wednesday. The Mets are the home team, but they’ll enter things as the underdogs with their +125 odds. With Cole on the hill, the Yankees will be confident in their abilities to post a victory. However, we’re going in a different direction for our pick for this one.

The Mets are our pick to beat the Yankees at Citi Field
Call it a hunch, but the Mets are our pick to beat the Yankees at Citi Field. Injuries continue to be a nightmare for the Yankees and Aaron Judge is out of the lineup due to his toe injury. He was recently placed on the Injured List and the last thing anyone wants to see happen is him further injure himself by having him return to the lineup too soon. He’ll be out for both games against the Mets this week.
You’ve also got to worry about the health of Giancarlo Stanton. He was held out of the series finale vs. the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night, a game the Yankees lost 3-2. Fans were quite upset that Stanton was not in the lineup, but it’s clear the Bronx Bombers are also trying to be careful with Stanton. When healthy, they’re two of the best sluggers in the game. However, they’ve been dealing with injuries throughout their careers.

With a less-than-fully healthy lineup for the Yankees, Verlander should be in a great spot to play lights out for the Mets. Verlander, coming off his recent Tommy John Surgery, is back to full strength and will want to make an impact going up against the Yankees. Verlander has been a bit up and down this year, posting his 2-3 record and 4.85 ERA. However, something tells us he’ll rise to the challenge in this one.
Again, the Mets are the underdogs with their +125 MLB betting odds. It’s not going to be easy for them to post this upset, but with Judge injured and Stanton up in the air for his availability, then it will surely help the Flushing side in terms of trying to come away with a victory. The Mets will hope to make a statement and do so in a convincing fashion. We’re confident they’ll get the job done in what should be a fun showdown.
The Yankees are still hoping to keep pace in the American League
As we look toward the second half of the season, the Yankees are still hoping to keep pace in the American League. Right now, however, the club has suffered a bit of a setback thanks to the injuries. Entering the campaign, the Yankees were up there with the Astros among the favorites to push for the AL Pennant. That’s no longer the case, as the Yankees hold +700 odds to win the AL and move on to the World Series.
This is disappointing, as the Rays remain the favorites to win the pennant, with the Houston Astros right behind them. What’s been rough for the Yankees is that ace hurler Nestor Cortes is yet to make his debut with the team. Here we are in mid-June and Cortes has nowhere to be seen due to his back issue. If the Yankees want to push for a trip to the World Series, they need to get healthy and fast. This team is simply too good and too loaded to not be in the AL hunt. We’ll see if they can make a push.
