Sourced from the Ancestor vines (planted 1889) in the Yalumba Tri-Centenary block. Last vintage (the 2021), celebrated winemaker Kevin Glastonbury pushed the boat out with a 250 day post-ferment maceration. This release he’s gone just a little further with a 372 day post-ferment maceration. Okay, that’s a lot further. No oak maturation. Still only $70.
Yalumba, The Tri-Centenary, Grenache, Barossa Valley, 2022
Pure ruby hue. Oh my goodness, you can smell this wine from across the room. Concentrated pomegranate molasses, potpourri, crushed violets and lavender flower, kirsch, raspberries in dark chocolate, lavender, fine white pepper, sweet moist brown earth, a little jaffa (choc/orange) and bluestone. Exquisite, seductive and complex. Silken layers overlap with tight textural structures. Intense focus on the bright and alive fruit. Long, long length. An absolute bargain.
