Wolves vs Newcastle Prediction: Isak’s confidence has been raised
Wolverhampton Wanderers host Newcastle United at Molineux in the Premier League on Sunday (16:30, Sky Sports Main Event), hoping to secure their first win of the season. The Old Gold drew against Nottingham Forest last time out but lost their opening two fixtures.
Newcastle defeated Tottenham Hotspur on home soil last time out to continue their unbeaten start to the campaign. Read on for my Wolves vs Newcastle prediction, accompanied by match odds and team news.
Wolves vs Newcastle Betting Tips
Wolves are 12/5 to claim their first win of the season, giving them an implied probability of 29.4%. Newcastle are valued at 23/20, or a 46.5% chance, to take the three points. The draw is on offer at 13/5 (27.8%).
Over 2.5 goals is available at 8/15 and both teams to score is marketed at 4/9.
Team News
Wolves boss Gary O’Neil is without the services of Sasa Kalajdzic, Boubacar Traore and Enso Gonzalez due to injury, while Yerson Mosquera is a doubt to feature after picking up a knock while on international duty with Colombia. Rayan Ait-Nouri and Mario Lemina will need to be assessed ahead of Sunday.
Santiago Bueno could fill in at the back if Mosquera is ruled out of this clash. Sam Johnstone made his debut in goal against Forest but Jose Sa will try and earn the number one spot back from the Englishman.
Fabian Schar is available for selection for Newcastle following his three-game suspension for head-butting Southampton’s Ben Brereton Diaz on the opening weekend. Howver, Eddie Howe is still without several players due to injury. They are Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles and Lewis Miley.
Callum Wilson and Joe Willock don’t appear to be too far away from returning to action but this game might come too soon for the pair. After completing his lengthy ban, Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali could be in line for a return to the starting lineup.
Newcastle and both teams to score @ 23/10
Despite a lot of injuries, Newcastle have started the season well. Unbeaten and two wins from three has the Magpies in an excellent position. They will look to build on this when they travel to the West Midlands on Sunday, against a Wolves side low on confidence.
I have Newcastle to win this match because they possess a much stronger squad than their hosts, but as usual, I don’t think Wolves will give it up easily. Both teams to score has been a winning selection in each of the last nine meetings between these two sides, so I am expecting this trend to continue on Sunday.
Wolves have been one of the leakiest defences in the division so far having conceded nine times already. Six of those came against Chelsea and that match was at Molineux, so it isn’t looking like the fortress they need it to be.
They will be facing quality attackers in the likes of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes. Then there is the midfield quality that Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes will bring. It is going to be a tough match for the Old Gold and I am expecting their wait for three points to continue.

Alexander Isak anytime goalscorer @ 6/5
Newcastle’s Swedish striker opened his account for the season against Spurs last time out with a simple tap-in, and he will be hungry for more. He netted 21 times last season and he certainly possesses the quality to emulate that figure in 2024/25.
He might be aided by the fact that the Magpies are not involved in any form of European competition this year, so he should have an abundance of energy for every single league fixture.
Isak headed into the international break with confidence and this will have grown thanks to the three goals he netted for Sweden in the Nations League. This latest streak should set him up nicely for the next phase of Premier League matches, and I do think Wolves are going to suffer here as a result.
