Wolves vs Aston Villa Prediction: Watkins is the man to stop

  • By Admin

Aston Villa make the short journey to Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon (14:00) in a West Midlands derby.

Wolves come into this game off the back of ending Manchester City’s perfect start to the Premier League campaign last weekend, while Villa enjoyed a dramatic 1-0 victory over Zrinjski Mostar in the Europa Conference League, courtesy of a late strike from John McGinn.

Wolves vs Aston Villa Prediction

  • Draw @ 5/2
  • Ollie Watkins to score anytime @ 6/4

Team News

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde sits out the last of his three-match ban for the dismissal against Luton Town, meaning he’ll return to the fore after the international break for the hosts.

However, Wolves are boosted by the return of Tommy Doyle, who was ineligible to face his parent club Manchester City last time out.

As for Villa, Unai Emery is sweating over the fitness of Moussa Diaby and Boubacar Kamara, who both missed the clash against Zrinjski Mostar.

Alex Moreno is likely to return after the international break, but Emiliano Buendia and Tyrone Mings are set for the full season on the sidelines with serious knee injuries.

Draw @ 5/2

Both sides come into this match still revelling in last weekend’s heroics.

As mentioned above, Wolves ended Man City’s perfect start, and Villa stuck six past Brighton & Hove Albion to move up to fifth in the table.

The only league games Villa haven’t won so far were at Anfield and St. James’ Park – no shame in that whatsoever.

I suspect Villa could suffer a European hangover, having played on Thursday night, but I still think Wolves blow hot and cold at the moment and I’m not sure they’ll follow up their victory over City with another brilliant performance here.

For example, they were excellent in the loss to Manchester United but then comfortably beaten by Brighton the following week.

With this game also being a derby, I can see this game being a closely-contested affair.

Ollie Watkins to score anytime @ 6/4

Watkins is proving himself week-by-week as one of the league’s most reliable goalscorers.

It took him a few games to get going but he followed up the winning goal at Stamford Bridge with a hat-trick in the 6-1 demolition of Brighton last week, taking his total up to seven goals across all competitions.

That form has seen the 27-year-old regain his place back in the England set-up for next week’s international break, and I think he’ll add to his tally once again this weekend.
