Wolverhampton Tips: Rhubarb can taste success again
There are five midweek meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday and the last of them to get going will be the all-weather card at Wolverhampton.
The nine-race Dunstall Park card begins at 16:30 and they race all the way through until the finale at 20:30.
We’ve picked out a trio to follow on the evening, including Rhubarb for trainer Richard Price bidding to land a first all-weather success.
Wolverhampton tips, Wednesday
Wolverhampton 18:00 – Rhubarb @ 14/1
Recent course and distance scorer White Umbrella will feature on lots of shortlists as she escapes a penalty for that win apprentice race success five days ago. She could be well treated now with Georgia Dobie on board again but they got a seamless path up the running rail off the final bend in that contest to come and challenge and things might not work out as easily again.
RHUBARB is a good alternative under David Probert for trainer Richard Price. The mare won at Nottingham (5f, heavy) in early October off a mark 2lb higher than this, her fifth career win on turf.
She’s 0-14 on synthetics previously but has placed on five occasions, including over 5f/7f here. She looks to be on a fair mark still and her defeat last time at Kempton is easily enough forgiven.
Wolverhampton 18:30 – Alligator Alley @ 4/1
A sprint handicap over the minimum distance here and one in which ALLIGATOR ALLEY makes appeal for David O’Meara.
He was returning from a small break when a relatively close sixth at Newcastle recently, fading just slightly in the closing stages. He should be sharper for that outing.
He has an appreciably better strike-rate on synthetic surfaces compared to what he has managed on grass. His most recent success came at Newcastle in August in a valuable Racing League contest off a mark of 91 but he’s won off a three-figure rating in the past.
He is well-drawn for one that likes to race forward and was a course and distance winner 11 months ago from 1lb higher.
Wolverhampton 20:30 – Prince Ali @ 4/1
Division II of this handicap over an extended-mile can go the way of the consistent PRINCE ALI.
The Twilight Son gelding is a three-time all-weather winner, scoring most recently over this track and trip in September from a mark 3lb lower than this.
He has raced here three times since and run with credit on each occasion, all of those efforts coming over a furlong further than tonight’s trip.
He is only a short-head from being 2-2 over C&D and with William Pyle in the saddle taking off 5lb, they look sure to go close again back at Dunstall Park.
