After a rain-affected couple of days, the second round of Wimbledon is due to begin on Wednesday with some big names once again involved.

Men’s second seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic is set to face Jordan Thompson of Australia on day three, which should also feature a clash between fourth seed Casper Ruud and British hopeful Liam Broady.

As for the second round of the women’s singles competition, top seed Iga Swiatek is scheduled to take on Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo and there is an intriguing encounter between Leylah Fernandez and Caroline Garcia on the cards.

Alexander Bublik to beat JJ Wolf @ 1/2

Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik had to battle from a set down to beat Mackenzie McDonald in his tournament opener on Monday, recovering from his early woes to control the rest of that match, firing down 24 aces.

As part of his preparations for SW19, Bublik won last month’s Halle Open, defeating Jannik Sinner, Alex Zverev and Andrey Rublev on his way to the title and he should have too much for unseeded American JJ Wolf.

Daniel Galan to beat Oscar Otte @ 7/4

Germany’s Oscar Otte is fancied to win his second-round clash with Daniel Galan but has had to go through three qualifiers and a first-round clash with Dominik Koepfer to reach this stage.

And, in the build-up to Wimbledon, Otte was not exactly in scintillating form, losing his only matches at the Stuttgart Open and the Halle Open.

Galan, meanwhile, looked excellent in his straight-sets win over 24th seed Yoshihito Nishioka and can spring another surprise in the second round.

Andrey Rublev to beat Aslan Karatsev @ 1/6

Andrey Rublev’s previous best showing at Wimbledon was a run to the fourth round in 2021 but he has shown signs that he could go even further at the All England Club this year, starting with a second-round victory over Aslan Karatsev.

Seventh seed Rublev eased past Max Purcell 6-3 7-5 6-4 in the first round, following on from a fine showing at the Halle Open on grass.

Rublev reached the final in Halle, losing to Bublik in three sets, but that should have given his confidence a big boost and he looks set to be far too strong for Karatsev.

Katerina Siniakova to beat Lesia Tsurenko @ 4/6

Czech ace Katerina Siniakova warmed up for Wimbledon this year by winning the Bad Homburg Open on grass and she carried her form into her Wimbledon opener against China’s Qinwen Zheng, who she beat 6-3 7-5.

That was an impressive result given Zheng was the 24th seed at the All England Club and Siniakova is worth backing to defeat Lesia Tsurenko, who was pushed close by Claire Liu in a 6-3 3-6 6-4 win last time out.

Sofia Kenin to beat Xinyu Wang @ 8/15

Sofia Kenin recorded one of the surprises of the first round at Wimbledon on Monday, knocking out women’s seventh seed Coco Gauff, and she can follow up with victory over Wang Xinyu.

Kenin had to play through three qualifiers to make the first round but she is a former Grand Slam champion and this is the fourth time she has made the second round at Wimbledon.

She will be desperate to go a step further for the first time in her career and can do so at the expense of Wang.
