West Flagler deadline in Fla. betting case
Following this month’s relaunch of Hard Rock Bet in Florida, the Seminole Tribe’s main legal opponent will brush up against a key deadline Monday. Florida parimutuel West Flagler Associates faces a deadline to file an application for writ of certiorari with the U.S. Supreme Court. WFA seeks to overturn a June ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
In that ruling, the court reversed a 2021 decision from U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich that nullified a compact between the Seminoles and the state of Florida. The compact, in effect, granted the Seminoles a monopoly over online sports wagering in Florida. The Florida Legislature approved the compact in May 2021, and U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Deb Haaland allowed it by taking no action after a 45-day review period passed.
Super Bowl rematch on MNF
On Monday night, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of the Super Bowl. The last time they met, the Chiefs prevailed 38-35 in a game when the teams combined for more than 750 yards. The Chiefs are 2.5-point home favorites at FanDuel; the total is 45.5 points. The teams may meet again in Super Bowl LVIII, and FanDuel has odds of +750 on that occurring — the top choice of any matchup on the board.

EGR Power LatAm Summit
In September, Brazil’s lower house approved a bill that sought to regulate sports betting in 2024. The legalization of sports betting in Brazil could bring more than 1.65 billion reais ($335 million) annually to one of the world’s largest economies. Issues surrounding the arrival of legal sports wagering in the nation are expected to dominate this week’s EGR Power LatAm Summit in Brazil.
Representatives from a host of U.S.-focused companies will be in Rio de Janeiro for this week’s conference. On Tuesday, a panel will address integrity issues in sports wagering. Over the last 12 months, the nation has been rocked by a comprehensive match-fixing scandal in Brazilian soccer. The panel will include Juan Matias Mendez, who serves as manager of integrity partnerships at Sportradar.

Potential Kansas-Purdue showdown at Maui Invite
There are a litany of major college basketball tournaments during Thanksgiving week. The most prominent tourney takes place in Hawaii, where four Top 10 teams are entered in the Maui Invitational. The finals on Wednesday night would pit No. 1 Kansas against No. 2 Purdue if both teams win their first two games at the tournament.
The top-ranked Jayhawks will face Chaminade on Monday, then either UCLA or Marquette in their next matchup. Purdue needs to defeat Gonzaga in Monday’s quarterfinals, then either Syracuse or Tennessee to reach the finals. If the Boilermakers meet the Jayhawks in the finals, preseason first-team All-American center Zach Edey would face off against Kansas counterpart Hunter Dickinson. Kansas is favored to win the Maui Invite at FanDuel with odds of +175, ahead of Tennessee and Purdue, which have odds of +320 and +340, respectively.

Niners-Seahawks highlights Thanksgiving matchups
The Seahawks fell out of a tie for first in the NFC West on Sunday when Jason Myers missed a 55-yard field goal in the waning seconds against the Rams. The Niners now have a one-game lead over the Seahawks heading into Thursday night’s matchup in Seattle.
It marks the first of two meetings between the NFC West rivals over the next three weeks. Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith suffered an elbow injury against the Rams. The Niners are 4.5-point favorites at DraftKings; the total is 44.5. The 49ers have outscored opponents 61-17 over their last two games.
Seahawks HC Pete Carroll described Geno Smith’s injury as a bruise on his triceps or back of the elbow, but he was able to get it loose enough to return Sunday. Carroll said he was not sure of Smith’s prognosis for Thursday vs. San Francisco. https://t.co/U7xqGyJS4A

Wolverines host Buckeyes in Top 3 showdown
With Jim Harbaugh out for a second straight game, Michigan gutted out a 31-24 win over Maryland on Saturday. The victory set up a matchup against archrival Ohio State with a spot in the Big Ten championship on the line. Harbaugh will miss the showdown of unbeatens in the final game of his three-game suspension. Michigan opened as a 5-point favorite at Circa Sports; the total is 47.5. The Wolverines are favored over the Buckeyes for the first time in five years.
Jim Harbaugh reportedly faces a massive suspension if he returns to Michigan next season that will result in him missing at least most of the year.
Will Harbaugh leave for the NFL?

Also on Saturday, No. 4 Florida State will be without starting quarterback Jordan Travis in facing Florida. A Heisman Trophy contender, Travis suffered a gruesome leg injury in a victory over North Alabama. Florida, however, will probably also be without its starting quarterback, Graham Mertz (collarbone). The Seminoles are 7-point favorites at Circa; the total is 50.5.
Finally, No. 5 Washington will face Washington State in the final matchup between the in-state rivals as Pac-12 members. Washington snuck past Oregon State 22-20 in rainy Corvallis. The Huskies are 16-point favorites; the total is 71.5.

First place on the line in the AFC South
The Texans defeated the Cardinals on Sunday to remain one game behind Jacksonville in the AFC South. At 6-4, the Texans are among the most surprising teams in the NFL. With a win in Week 12 against Jacksonville, the Texans would move ahead of the Jaguars for first place in the division. The Jags are 1-point favorites at ESPN BET; the total is 46.5.
The Chargers, meanwhile, fell to the Packers Sunday to drop to 4-6 on the season. The Chargers may need to run the table in the rest of the regular season to earn a spot in the playoffs. The Ravens will travel to the West Coast to face the Chargers on Sunday Night Football. The Ravens are 3.5-point favorites at BetRivers; the total is 45.
Key injuries and absences heading into the NFL’s Week 12:
- Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp injured his ankle in Sunday’s win over the Seahawks. Kupp, a former NFL Offensive Player of the Year, missed the entire second half. The Rams are 1-point favorites over the Cardinals; the total is 46.5.
- The Bills lost three members of their secondary in Sunday’s win over the Jets: corners Dane Jackson and Taron Johnson both suffered head injuries, while safety Taylor Rapp (neck) left the field on a stretcher. The Bills travel to Philadelphia for a key matchup in Week 12 against the Eagles.
- Dolphins running back Devon Achane left Sunday’s win over the Raiders with a knee injury. Achane previously missed several weeks after injuring his knee last month. At bet365, the Dolphins are 6.5-point favorites over the Jets on Friday; the total is 42.5.
Have a good week, everyone!
