LSU vs South Carolina

Kicking off my college football picks is a play on South Carolina to win outright against LSU. I gave out the Gamecocks +7 in my CFB ATS picks, and the line has continued to shift in favor of USC. I like throwing their moneyline in Week 3 CFB parlays.

The Gamecocks are off to a 2-0 start, including an impressive 31-6 win over Kentucky last week to open their SEC schedule. This marks the first time since 2021 that South Carolina has started a season 2-0.

One key advantage for the Gamecocks is their fierce pass rush. South Carolina’s front seven has generated a “Havoc play” on 20% of snaps, disrupting opposing offenses. They will look to exploit an LSU offensive line that has struggled, especially in the run game (3.3 YPC).

On the other side of the ball, South Carolina’s offense has a chance to get on track against an LSU defense that has underperformed so far this season. Dual-threat quarterback LaNorris Sellers showed flashes last week and could pose problems for the Tigers with his legs.

The Gamecocks are also riding some positive momentum under head coach Shane Beamer. They have won five of their last six games dating back to last season. While South Carolina hasn’t beaten LSU since 1994, this feels like the type of game where they can shock the college football world, especially at home.

  • Pick: South Carolina ML (+195)

Texas A&M vs Florida

Continuing my Week 3 college football parlay is a pick for the Florida Gators to upset the Texas A&M Aggies in the Swamp. One key reason for this pick is the emergence of freshman quarterback DJ Lagway.

In Lagway’s first collegiate start last week against Samford, the freshman shattered the Florida freshman passing record with 456 yards and three touchdowns. His big arm made the Gators’ offense much more vertical and explosive.

Additionally, this is a desperate, backs-against-the-wall spot for Florida head coach Billy Napier. After a disappointing 1-1 start that included a Week 1 loss to Miami, many believe Napier is coaching for his job. The urgency of the moment, combined with a raucous home crowd at The Swamp, makes this a nice value pick.

On the Aggies’ side, the biggest storyline heading into the game is the surprise addition of QB Connor Weigman to Texas A&M’s injury report on Thursday. He is officially listed as questionable, meaning he has a 50% chance of playing.

If Weigman can’t go, Texas A&M would likely turn to redshirt freshman Marcel Reed. Reed has very limited experience, with his only career start coming in last season’s bowl game. Making your first start of the season on the road in the hostile environment of The Swamp is far from an ideal situation for the young quarterback.

Even if Weigman does play, he has struggled so far this season, throwing for just 225 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions through two games. He especially had a rough outing in the Aggies’ season-opening loss to Notre Dame. When pressured in that game, Weigman completed only 2 of 11 passes.

  • Pick: Florida ML (+160)

UCF vs TCU

UCF’s dynamic ground game, averaging 419 rushing yards per game, will pose a major challenge for TCU’s suspect run defense. The Horned Frogs ranked just 80th in PPA allowed on rushing plays, and now must contend with UCF’s trio of explosive backs, led by RJ Harvey.

With UCF running the ball on 73% of their plays, they should be able to control the clock and keep TCU’s offense off the field.

While TCU’s offense, led by sophomore quarterback Josh Hoover, has looked explosive so far, they haven’t faced a defense nearly as talented as UCF’s. The Knights have elite playmakers at all three levels, including Cincinnati transfer linebacker Deshawn Pace.

TCU has shown some concerning trends that UCF could exploit. The Horned Frogs have already fumbled four times this season, and winning the turnover battle will be crucial. TCU has also struggled in the red zone, frequently settling for field goals instead of touchdowns.

Ultimately, this game is a toss-up that could come down to which quarterback performs better under pressure. However, UCF’s powerful ground game and elite defense, make them a great bet to go on the road and knock off TCU.

  • Pick: UCF ML (+115)
