Warrington Wolves vs Huddersfield Giants Predictions: 7/4 King and 6/1 Wolves to find form
Two sides in need of a return to form face off in the Betfred Super League on Friday night when Warrington Wolves host Huddersfield Giants at the Halliwell Jones Stadium (kick-off 20:00 BST, live on Sky Sports Action).
Sam Burgess’ Wolves scraped past Hull FC last time out for a first win in four league and cup fixtures, while the Giants’ failed comeback against the Catalans Dragons means they have just one win in eight. My Warrington Wolves vs Huddersfield Giants predictions will not be anticipating a barnstorming performance from either side…
Warrington Wolves vs Huddersfield Giants Tips
Warrington Wolves vs Huddersfield Giants Odds
Warrington are unsurprisingly big favourites to win this one, despite their scratchy form since the Betfred Challenge Cup final loss to Wigan Warriors. The Wolves are 3/10 to take the two competition points, with Huddersfield on offer at 11/4. The draw – and a portion of golden-point extra-time – is available at 18/1.
Team News
Burgess has made a few changes from the side which beat struggling Hull 24-18 in an unconvincing display prior to the international weekend.
In comes Lachlan Fitzgibbon after a back injury, while Arron Lindop, Stefan Ratchford and Connor Wrench are all added to the 21-man squad having missed out against the Black and Whites. Tom Whitehead, who was the 18th player in Round 15, is selected again.
The Wolves are without Max Wood and Joe Bullock, both of whom were named on the bench last time out.
Ian Watson is without Esan Marsters, Sam Hewitt and Ashton Golding from the squad which came from 22-0 down at Catalans Dragons a fortnight ago only to fall short in a 22-18 defeat.
There’s still no Leroy Cudjoe or Jack Murchie for the Giants, while Esan Marsters, Sam Hewitt and Ashton Golding are all missing from the 21 having featured in Perpignan.
In come Jake Bibby, Thomas Deakin, Harvey Livett, Hugo Salabio, Jack Bllington and Aidan McGowan. Jake Connor could be included having been 18th man against the Dragons.
Warrington to win by 11-15 points @ 6/1
While the Wire have lost their last two home games – to Wigan and Salford Red Devils – I make this their best chance to get back on the bike after a week off to refresh during the international break.
Those two losses either side of the Challenge Cup final could both be put down to the distraction of Wembley, and while they were far from their best in victory against Hull it just felt like a game they had to get under their belts and get out of.
Now we ought to see a more focused Warrington outfit, and if they get a decent start they should have more than enough to put Huddersfield to bed. I fancy them to win by a couple of scores, and with the 11-15 margin available at 6/1, that suggests a 14.3% probability.
Toby King anytime tryscorer @ 7/4
There might be more obvious tips for anytime tryscorer, such as Matt Dufty, Josh Thewlis and Matty Ashton, but in Toby King the Wolves have a centre who has been quietly prolific at the HJ this season.
Of his seven tries in all competitions, six of them have come on home soil. And I can see him getting on the end of another against the Giants on Friday.
He was a 12-try scorer for Wigan last term as he picked up a Super League winner’s medal, and that experience could well help him to kick on in the second half of the 2024 campaign starting with a try against Huddersfield.
