14.25 – Cambion Jewel In The Peaks Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle – 1m7f
ROLYPOLYMOLY bolted up in his only previous start over C&D and although he has struggled in his four starts this year, he is down to a dangerous-looking mark back at a course that suits. PITTSBURG was only beaten a whisker in his hat-trick bid last time by a course specialist at Cartmel and will go close if able to translate that form back over hurdles.
Tips: Rolypolymoly, Pittsburg
15.00 – Vistry Homes Partridge Walk Stafford Maiden Hurdle – 2m3f
Not a strong race by any means and Amy Murphy’s SHANDANCER gets the initial vote, who is the most consistent of these and has to be the percentage call to at least fill the frame having placed in six of his last seven starts. He should go well but I am going to cover with CARPE DIEM at a much bigger price, who took a step forward from his hurdles debut last time when third, and has claims if he can build on that here.
Tips: Shandancer, Carpe Diem
15.35 – Cambion Supports Ronald McDonald House Handicap – 2m4f
Most of these are untrustworthy and quirky characters but despite FAT SAM taking a heavy tumble when last seen, his class should come to the fore against these if that fall hasn’t knocked his confidence. He is 2Ib below his last winning mark, so granted a clear round, he can bounce back under James Davies. Of the remainder, TRAPISTA marginally shades the alternative vote, who could emerge as the main threat, given she is down to a career-low mark and might improve for the return to the longer trip.
Tips: Fat Sam, Trapista
16.10 – Cambion Electronics Handicap Hurdle – 1m7f
Conversely compared to the previous race, this looks competitive. The Donald McCain-trained SIMPLY RED finished a close-up second on her last visit here and has taken her form to a new level since, including the last twice, winning both starts, and the hat-trick could be on the cards with Charlie Maggs retained to ride, who can again claim 10Ib. GLORIOUS ZOFF wasn’t suited to the soft ground last time when only sixth and a repeat of his third in Market Rasen’s Summer Handicap Hurdle, which is the best form on offer, would see him go very close.
Tips: Simply Red, Glorious Zoff
16.45 – Sharon Williams Birthday Novices’ Handicap Chase – 3m
CAN’T BEAT HISTORY improved significantly from his chase debut to score by 14 lengths last time and while that wasn’t the strongest of events and a few of the fences were omitted, he couldn’t have won it any easier to be honest. He is up 7Ib for that success but should have plenty more to come and will be hard to beat if he can replicate that performance in this contest. SINISTER MINISTER has placed in four of his five starts over fences though and should be thereabouts if he can last out this longer distance.
Tips: Can’t Beat History, Sinister Minister
17.20 – Cambion Electronics ‘Smarter Together’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle – 2m7f
STILETTO was down the field on the Flat last time but he is generally consistent overall and has displayed promise in his three previous efforts over hurdles. His stamina has to be taken on trust but if he stays, he has a chance with Tom Bellamy booked to ride, who has his only ride on the card. EATON LADY remains in good form, who won over C&D in May, and needs consideration having backed up that success with a good second at Worcester when last seen.
Tips: Stiletto, Eaton Lady
