Tuesday’s US Horse Racing Tips column went extremely smoothly as we had two winners and a place for our each-way longshot using Betfred’s Extra Place Races. Can’t say fairer than that.

We look to keep up the profits tonight with two win shots and once more delving into the Extra Place Race options to find a horse we think can hit the board at 11/2 or longer…

US Horse Racing Tips

  • Back Onyx Ten e/w in the 18:30 at Delaware Park @ SP
  • Back Giacomo Casanova in the 00:50 at Mountaineer @ SP
  • Back Seventeen Black in the 01:52 at Prairie Meadows @ SP

18:30 Delaware Park:

I like to play at least one race from Betfred’s Extra Place Races every day and for this evening, I’m looking at the third race on the card at Delaware Park, where we get to see some two-year-olds make their debuts on the track.

The horse I’m taking each-way is Onyx Ten. He’s trained by Gary Capuano, who is currently third in the leading trainers at the track for this meet, heading into the day with nine wins and six places from 27 starts, which is a pretty decent ratio for us.

With several recorded breezes, mostly at Laurel Park, we’ve seen there is something there in this horse. He went 4f in 49.20 last week at Delaware Park in his first training run at the track, which was actually .6s faster than the favourite here, another Capuano-trained horse in Sacred Thunder.

Onyx Ten has the advantage of going off 8lbs lighter than the rest of the field and whilst I’m not sure of his win potential, a top-three finish with that weight advantage and with Betfred paying out for that extra place should all seven runners go, makes this an each-way play at 11/2 or longer.

00:50 Mountaineer:

Our Nap of the Day comes from the early hours with the third race on the card at Mountaineer. This five-and-a-half furlong sprint race for State Bred horses has attracted a small field of six but the three-year-old Giacomo Casanova stands out as the most likely winner.

Sired by the Grade 1 winner Creative Cause, his performances up to now have been fairly average. A win, a second-place and a third-place finish are on his resume from seven starts, that is nothing to write home about.

His best performances though are still superior to what the other runners have done recently and when you throw in the fact that he’s carrying only 111lbs tonight, which is 5lbs fewer than his nearest rival, we should be in place for a relatively decent even-money winner overnight.

01:52 Prairie Meadows:

We go deep into the night for our third selection of the column, as the final race on the card at Prairie Meadows has a small field of seven and one horse who looks significantly better than the others.

You don’t go from winning races at Santa Anita to not being the best horse in the field at this track very often and that is why I like the look of Seventeen Black to round off our slate for the night.

This four-year-old has spent most of his career on the West Coast racing on the turf. He’s been victorious at both Golden Gate Fields and Santa Anita but his connections have moved him back to Iowa, where just a fortnight ago he went on the dirt and won at an absolute canter. There won’t be many horses stabled at Prairie Meadows who can hang with him and when you notice that this race is for State Bred horses only, you can see why I like his chances.

The leading jockey of the meet so far has been tabbed to ride him and even with top weight, I think he should dominate this field. At 7/5 in the US Pools, I’d like to think we get Evens to open and that would be a strong bet.
