Undefeated Tripolina beats the boys in the Display Stakes

TORONTO, October 15, 2023—Filly Tripolina took on the boys to capture the $125,000 Display Stakes for 2-year-olds on Sunday at Woodbine.

Tripolina, trained by Kevin Attard and ridden to victory by Woodbine leading jockey, Kazushi Kimura is owned by X-Men Racing, Madaket Stables LLC and SF Racing LLC. The 2-year-old is now undefeated from two starts, the first being a Maiden Special Weight on August 13.

Out of the gate Western Word took the lead while favourite Tripolina settled in the middle of the field.

Through an opening quarter of :23.15, Western World was surpassed by Gotts Got It and Magic Slips, who took the one and two positions. Tripolina was second to last.

At the half in :45.53, Magic Slips lead, followed closely by Gotts Got It in second, Western Whirl in third and Two Ghosts in fourth. Tripolina, starting to make her move, was in 5th.

Around the turn, Tripolina surged up to the leaders from the outside. Down the stretch, Tripolina pushed past the others taking the win by three lengths. Break the spell was second, Western Whirl was third and Break the Spell was fourth after a show photo.

The final time was 1:21.81

Tripolina was entered into both of today’s stakes but ultimately the decision was made to stay in the Display Stakes.

“We kind of looked at the race set up and obviously we’re trying to see if we can win both divisions.” said trainer Kevin Attard. “We thought this filly here suited this race best. It just worked out like we planned.”

“She’s very smart, she is big kind of scopey filly. I don’t like to rush them off their feet too early, if she broke well and kind of wanted to be in the early fight, we would have let her do that. But on paper it looked like there would be plenty of speed so we hoped it would transpire like it did and it worked out in our favour today,” Attard commented.

Tripolina paid $4.70 to win.
