Championship favorites
Italy (+150) is expected to cruise through a weak Pool B. While the reigning champions will enjoy home-court advantage until at least the semifinals, they’re coming off a sixth-place finish at the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League.
Serbia (+200) has a much tougher draw in Pool A with Poland (+400), who secured a bronze medal at the VNL 2023. Led by the best women’s volleyball player on planet earth, Tijana Bošković, the Serbs claimed gold at Netherlands/Poland 2022. They’ve also captured three CEV EuroVolley Women gold medals (2011, 2017, 2019) over the past decade.
Turks look tough to beat
Turkey (+300) has nabbed three medals in the last three editions of EuroVolley, including a bronze medal victory over The Netherlands (+1400) in 2011. They also won the recent 2023 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League. While the Turkish women have never won the competition in 16 tries, they’re always among the top challengers, having lost only six of their last 25 games played at the event.

Dutch rule Pool D
The Netherlands (+1400) are the only former champions in Pool D. They won the event in 1995 and clinched silver medals in 1991, 2009, 2015 and 2017. In 2021, the Dutch lost the bronze-medal match to Turkey.
After placing in the top 10 in seven consecutive editions of this tournament, Germany (+2000) will advance out of Pool C with the Turks. However, their ceiling is likely limited. In 2021, the co-hosts were bounced by the Netherlands, 1:3, in the Round of 16.
Best Bet
Let’s face it – this is a four-team race between Italy, Serbia, Turkey and Poland. While the Italians will be buoyed by homecourt advantage, the Turkish women have the best mix of talent, youth and experience.
Like Serbia, the Sultans of the Net have advanced to the semifinals at the last four European Championships. We like Turkey to finally win one in 2023.
