Tuesday’s Lucky 15 Tips: Ladies to provide our nap

Greetings dear reader, for the new week ahead. Winners and near-misses last week for this feature and the Nap of the Day, so bags of welcome excitement and some very tangible joy.

Tuesday’s Lucky 15 tips for July 23 will come from an eight-race all-weather flat card taking place at Dunstall Park, Wolverhampton. Lots of the sport’s top dogs are present, and though the rewards are modest, the contests will be keenly-fought. Action starts at 17:10.

17:40 – Golden Gal @ 7/1

A course-and-distance scorer trained by Ollie Pears in North Yorkshire, and ridden by Harry Russell, as he has been on many previous occasions.

The five-year-old mare is a real 5f specialist these days and was a good third at Ripon 34 days ago, showing improved form. She’s fallen to a dangerous-looking mark of 48 and last ran on the all-weather at Southwell in March, beaten 3.5l off 54, under a 5lb claimer.

She’s reasonably treated under the conditions of this Classified Stakes contest and can get competitive at what should be a value price. There’s still some ability there in my view and let’s hope Golden Gal gets a chance to show just that on Tuesday.

18:10 – Dillydingdillydong @ 2/1

The gloriously-named Dillydingdillydong gets the brilliant Silvestre De Sousa on top for the first time in over three years, and arrives here in very decent order.

The six-year-old gelding finished well to be denied by just a neck at Kempton a week ago, and earlier this month had won here emphatically under a 5lb claimer off a mark of 45.

This is trickier, up 6lb from that, but the horse is in the best form since his brief two-year-old campaign and in another modest but competitive heat has a bright chance of scoring again.

18:40 – Anna Of Saxony @ 15/2

I couldn’t head to Wolves and not get involved in a Rossa Ryan possibility!

Anna Of Saxony is a four-year-old filly in the care of Stuart Kittow, and Rossa rode her at Ffos Las 13 days ago, finishing a good third beaten less than 3l at this kind of extreme trip.

This young lady is extremely lightly-raced, having just career start number five tonight, and has evidently had issues, including a wind op in February. Off 53, same mark as Ffos Las, she can maintain this belated upward trajectory for me and it’s fair to say she was inconvenienced a touch last time and could have been closer.

That plus the fact that Rossa is again engaged is a massive plus in my book.

19:10 – Court Drive @ 7/4

Ah, another of my favourites – but sentiment has nothing to do with the selection.

I speak of course of Hayley Turner, the maturing, ‘fine wine’ of race-riding, on board Court Drive for another formidable lady of the turf, Gay Kellaway. The three-year-old Inns Of Court filly was beaten just a neck here eight days ago, after meeting with interference.

There’s only six runners, and though the draw could have been kinder (6), she’d be very unlucky in my view to be scuppered again in that manner tonight. Appears off the same mark again (66), and is my nap of the night.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
