Just four race meetings take place across Britain and Ireland on what is a more laid back Tuesday.
Flat racing comes from Beverley and Brighton in the afternoon, while later on they race at Newbury alongside the jumps card at Newton Abbot.
Our Tuesday fancies include a recent chasing winner for Anthony Honeyball and Sam Twiston-Davies that can begin making up for lost time now.
Selections
- Newton Abbot 6.20 – Farouk De Cheneau @ 11/8
- Brighton 5.00 – Rhythmic Acclaim @ 5/2
- Newbury 7.15 – Vaynor @ 11/2
Tip 1
Last-time-out winners FAROUK DE CHENEAU (11/8) and Midnight Jewel are the pair that will take most of the focus in this handicap chase over just shy of 2m5f at Newton Abbot.
The former is now an 8YO but is a veteran of only nine races. He was formerly with Nicky Henderson and returned from a 205-day absence to win at Fontwell (2m3½f, good) in May, making all and jumping well under Sam Twiston-Davies before cruising clear to win by 16-lengths on stable bow for Anthony Honeyball.
Admittedly, that wasn’t the strongest race in the world but the manner of the victory still suggested there’s some mileage in Farouk De Cheneau at this modest level. He can account for last-time-out Bangor winner Midnight Jewel.
Tip 2
A six-furlong sprint on the card at Brighton concludes proceedings and hat-trick seeking Bernard Seapoint will be popular for the Darryll Holland and Jason Watson team after wins over C&D and at Yarmouth already in June.
He had plenty in hand in both instances and is a danger but those wins came in Classified races and he’s got more on his plate now returned to a handicap.
He will be conceding 5lb to the filly RHYTHMIC ACCLAIM (5/2) here, despite that younger rival already being rated 2lb superior.
P J McBride’s daughter of Acclamation arrives here after catching the eye in second on her handicap bow at Chelmsford over this trip in April, coming clear of the remainder but unable to lay a blow on Quinault, winner of all four starts subsequently on the all-weather and now rated 26lb higher.
Rhythmic Acclaim makes her turf bow and, if taking to the surface, should be hard to topple, with Adam Farragher easing her burden to the tune of 3lb in the saddle.
They are on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder and should oblige punters.
Tip 3
Connections of VAYNOR (11/2) will still be buzzing after seeing their colours carried to glory in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday by Khaadem.
The same colours are to be carried by both the selection for Charlie Hills and the Paul & Oliver Cole trained Splendent at Newbury this evening.
Vaynor had four wins last season over 1m4f-1m6f on turf/AW and comes into this after finishing third at Goodwood (1m6f) on his second start back.
If he comes forward once more on that effort, he’s got sound claims in this Newbury contest and the galloping nature of Newbury should play to his strengths in terms of stamina for racing behind this trip.
