Tuesday Lucky 15 Tips: Billy the Kid – make mine a double

Lucky 15

Greetings, dear reader. Monday was uninspiring – a non-runner didn’t help, and despite the great Billy Loughnane riding a double, we were on precisely neither of them. Tomorrow’s a whole new day and all that Scarlett O’Hara rhubarb, so we sail happily into Tuesday with renewed vigour.

Racing this afternoon, Feb 13th, comes from Thurles, Ayr and Lingfield (jumps), and there’s all-weather flat action from Newcastle. Seven races on the Tapeta up in the north-east provide the ammunition for today’s Lucky 15 suggestion. Here we go;

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 – if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today’s selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £440 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, ‘The Bonus King,’ invented the ‘Lucky’ series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown – all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide – take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips, Tuesday

Newcastle

  • 16.24 – Polar Princess @ 5/2
  • 18.30 – Master Dandy @ 17/2
  • 19.00 – Better @ 2/1
  • 19.30 – Cubanista @ 7/2

16.24 – Polar Princess @ 5/2

The magnificent pocket dynamo that is Hollie Doyle is on board Phil Kirby’s 4-yr-old Ulysses filly, and she’s knocking very loudly on the gate of the winners’ enclosure.

It could well open this afternoon – as it very nearly did last time in a Class above this, at Kempton. Four consecutive placed efforts has seen the wicked, unfeeling handicapper raise her 3lb, but as Hollie was up top the last day and maintains the partnership, I’m very hopeful that she can find a way for this ex-Gosden inmate to break her duck.

18.30 – Master Dandy @ 17/2

A 4-yr-old Dandy Man gelding, trained in Newmarket by James Fanshawe and ridden by claimer Tommie Jakes.

Very lightly-raced, won here last autumn, and ran very well at Wolves around a month ago (2nd). Nice price for an each-way single too. It’s Mr Fanshawe’s only raider on the card.

19.00 – Better @ 2/1

The great Billy Loughnane rides for trainer George Boughey – a potent duo indeed. This one’s had a little break of 70 days since hosing up at Wolves in a slightly lower grade. Looks the type to improve, and be fun to follow.

Up 11lb for that last cruise control-job, and will need to be progressing to defy the hike – which I think he can.

19.30 – Cubanista @ 7/2

Billy the Kid once again – this time for Lincolnshire handler Olly Williams.

Cubanista is a 5-yr-old Havana Gold gelding that ran very well here 9 days ago, finishing close-up behind Fantasy Navigator and the luckless Tathmeen.

‘Fantasy’ re-opposes but the selection has a tasty pull in the weights and can deservedly get his head in front, with luck, tonight.

Billy rode him last time and that’s always a big encouraging sign for me.
