Trump or Harris – what do the bookies think

  • By Admin

Not long to go now, folks. On 5th November, citizens from the United States of America will be back to the polls to put their marker down for who will lead their country for the next 4 years. US elections are polarising, dramatic, and given the US’ huge political and industrial clout, hugely influential to the rest of the world.

We’ve already seen a lot of drama. Donald Trump is currently banned from playing his beloved sport of golf due to further fears of attempts against his life.

Kamala Harris now holds the baton for the Democrats after the current serving president Joe Biden pulled out of the race earlier this summer.

The blues might just have breathed a short sigh of relief given Bidens’ fumbles and mishaps, but this is by no means a done deal yet and if US elections are anything to go by, this could go right down to the wire.

So what do bookmakers across Ireland think?

Political polls are notoriously inaccurate, but the bookie always knows best, right?

Let’s take a look!

Donald Trump

Donald Trump is quite possibly the most polarising candidate in US political history. He’s like Marmite to many: you either love him or you hate him! Trump will be counting his lucky chickens that he’s alive, having been inches away from being shot earlier on in the year. Some political commentators claimed that this attempt would give Team Trump some serious ammo as he looks to regain the presidency.

For a man who only seems to be able to write in capital letters, he has remarkable reach on social media and he’s not without his big-name supporters with tech billionaire Elon Musk being a well-documented advocate for the property mogul getting back into the white house.

Whether it’s the cost of living crisis, responses to the recent storms in Florida or the ongoing evolving situation in the Middle East, Trump is a master at pointing fingers at how not to handle something, and how he is the right person to lead the US both domestically and internationally.

Let’s take a look at how the Irish betting market is shaping up and how they fancy Trump’s chances:

Kamala Harris

Vice President Kamala Harris is the highest-serving ever female in US political history.

Something has changed in recent weeks. After Vice President Kamala Harris took over from Biden as the Democrats nominated for the presidency, she was a marginal favourite over Trump for quite some time.

Harris will not sit idly on such a feat since never in US politics has there been a female president of the United States of America. Prominent political figures such as Michelle Obama and Hilary Clinton have all their weight behind Harris who could not be a more polar opposite to Donald J Trump.

Kamala Harris recently hit back at Donald Trump over her medical records which concluded that she is in excellent health and fit for the presidency. Such a response is ironic given that medical health has often been at the forefront of Trump’s attacks against Joe Biden.

Recent polls however suggest that economic decisions by the current administration and the response to Hurricane Milton have turned the tide in this political race.

Despite being the bookie’s favourite in Ireland after replacing Joe Biden, Harris now sees herself as a marginal underdog.

It Will Be Close

Whatever happens in this race, the most unlikely outcome is that it will be a one-sided affair. US politics continues to be dominated by two political parties with wildly different doctrines and this will likely go down to the wire too. There is never a dull day in American politics.
