Better call Saul

Trainer Saul McHugh, owner Robyn Brohman, and Taquanyah, a daughter of Silent Name (JPN), all notched their first stakes win in Saturday’s $100,000 Eternal Search. McHugh co-bred the 6-year-old mare (who paid $14.10 for the victory) with Brohman.

Masterclass

Hunt Master, ridden by Jeffrey Alderson, dug down deep to win his first stakes race when he took all the spoils in Sunday’s $100,000 Overskate. Trained by Angus Buntain for Susan Rasmussen’s Openwood Farm, the bay gelding, who is now 5-8-3 from 24 starts, paid $13.90 for the win.

Need to know…

Apophis, a Chiefswood Stable homebred trained by Layne Giliforte, broke his maiden courtesy of a brilliant wire-to-wire score in Sunday’s second race, a 1/16-mile tilt on the inner turf. Under Rafael Hernandez, the 3-year-old son of Candy Ride (ARG), earned a two-length score and paid $7.60 for the win.
