The Minnesota Timberwolves quickly silenced any questions concerning the future of the franchise.
The Timberwolves locked in star guard Anthony Edwards to a five-year designated rookie max extension that can be worth up to $260 million.
“I’m humbled, appreciative and excited to remain in Minnesota as part of this incredible Timberwolves organization,” Edwards said in a statement via ESPN. “It’s amazing to see where hard work can take you.”

The 22-year-old has become one of the league’s best young talents behind his high level of production. He’s coming off earning his first All-Star selection after averaging a career-best 24.6 points while shooting 45.8 percent from the floor and 36.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Edwards has become the offensive central piece next to Karl-Anthony Towns. He’s the clear-cut face of the franchise, especially after securing a long-term deal that keeps him under contract through the 2028-29 season.
Edwards has the potential to take the next leap toward becoming one of the league’s best players. The Timberwolves will continue to build the roster around him and Towns.

Minnesota is in great hands with Edwards as he will continue to elevate his game. He could quickly become a steal under extension given the continued rise in average contracts.
The only question that remains if the Timberwolves will work out a new extension with Towns. He is entering the final year of his five-year, $158.2 million contract.
Minnesota will likely move toward hammering out a new deal to keep him in tow next to Edwards.
