Revenge will be on the minds of the Spanish tonight as Scotland roll in to Seville in search of a point that would clinch their place at Euro 2024.
Rodri described the Scots’ approach to the match as “Rubbish” when he huffed off the park following a 2-0 defeat at Hampden.
That wasn’t in the script for the Spaniards who had made eight changes from their earlier 3-0 win over Norway, apparently underestimating Steve Clarke’s men. They won’t do that again.
As well as wanting to avenge that defeat there’s the small matter of finishing top of the group and potentially being one of the best five group winners that will join Germany in Pot 1 for the draw.
It could come down to a head-to-head between these two nations so there’s added incentive for Spain to go for the jugular as they’ll need to either equal or better Scotland’s two-goal victory back in March in case the two countries finish on the same points tally.
The Spanish have a formidable record on their own turf, losing just once at home since 2007 – to Switzerland in Zaragaoza – so the task facing the Scots looks a tough one.
They were given a bit a runaround against England last time out and it could be another tough watch for the Tartan Army. Scotland are as big as 13/1 (SBK) for the win and it’s just 1/4 for Spain to be victorious.
On the Asian Handicap -1.5 Spain are 1.775 or you can have just over evens on them to beat the -1.5, -2.0 handicap.
Scotland could have a second bite at the qualifying cherry tonight because Norway must win in Cyprus to keep their hopes alive. Failure to do so would secure the Scots’ qualification regardless of what happens in Andalusia.
It’s highly unlikely though with the Norwegians at 1/5 to win.
Albania could land decent odds at home to Czech Republic tonight. They’re top of Group E, which is relatively weak, but they secured a point when the teams met in Prague last month.
A win would put the Albanians five points clear of the Czechs and they’ve already beaten Poland in Tirana and at 12/5 could be worth a punt tonight.
