With the latest news of no Texas sports betting for 2023, it means that people all over Texas are going to have to wait much longer for legalization to arrive. The last hope was a sports betting bill to pass through the Senate, but things died not long ago. With that said, people in the state are quite upset about things and rightfully so. However, plans are being put in place for the future, as Texas officials are already focused on 2025 for sports betting.
According to a report, lawmakers indeed are ready to put the wheels in motion to get things going on the right foot for 2025 to finally be the year where things are given the green light. With 2024 being ruled out too, it’s actually a good idea for things to start moving in the right direction now. No one wants to see Texas wait until the last minute in ’25 to try and get things done. Because of that, working on the project now truly is the right move.
“We know that Texans want the freedom and liberty that our great state is known for, to participate in sports betting legally and safely. We listened to the people and put forth legislations that would combat the $6 billion illegal market with common sense regulation and protect Texans without growing the size and scope of government,” former Governor Rick Perry said recently. “Texans deserve the chance to vote on legalizing betting and we will continue working to put this initiative on the ballot in 2025.”
If things can get on the November ballot down the road, then the expectation is that the voters will push things through. This makes a ton of sense, as people have been calling for legal sports betting for years now. Only time will tell if 2025 will finally be the year for legal sports betting, but no one can argue that the state needs this. There’s simply no reason for Texas to still be behind on things in this case.
Without sufficient support from the Texas Senate, it appears that sports betting will have to wait until at least 2025 to be legal in the Lone Star State

Pro teams know legal sports betting will benefit them as well
It goes without saying, but pro teams know legal sports betting will benefit them as well. This is why Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, and Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, have voiced their support for legal sports betting as well. This makes a ton of sense, as Cuban himself is known as quite the figure in Las Vegas, where sports betting is consistent every single week of the year.
With the Mavericks, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are two of the most entertaining players in the game, which is why Mavs fans are always checking the NBA betting odds to see where they stack up. However, people in Texas can’t bet on their favorite team because of the current laws in the state. Well, this has only led to plenty of illegal NBA bets being placed in the state, which is a big problem for authorities.
As for Jones, he has commented multiple times on his desire for sports betting kiosks at AT&T Stadium, one of the most expensive stadiums on the planet. It goes without saying, but adding betting kiosks to the home of the Dallas Cowboys would only be exciting for the fans on hand. This is something Jones indeed is dreaming of. That’s why he’s so interested in things getting done in the future.
As things stand, countless fans across the globe are checking the NFL betting odds for the Cowboys. There’s a reason they’re known as America’s Team. Once the regular season gets here too, more betting interest is going to arrive for this team. Will this be the year that Dak Prescott finally gets this team to the Super Bowl? That’s what people all over Texas are hoping for. There’s no question they’d also be betting on the team if it was legal. Right now, however, that’s not the case.

There’s plenty of optimism that 2025 can be the year for Texas sports betting
While nothing but negativity has surrounded this project of late, there’s plenty of optimism that 2025 can be the year for Texas sports betting to arrive. The Texas Sports Betting Alliance continues to work hard to make sure there are no other setbacks soon. Yes, not having betting coming later this year is a major issue and there’s going to be millions of dollars in potential revenue lost for the state.
With that said, the feeling here is that officials and lawmakers are going to go all-in for ’25 to be the year where things can be passed through the Senate and the legislators. It’s not going to be easy and it feels like the perfect sports betting bill will need to be presented. However, the fact that work is already being done lets you know how seriously people are taking the 2025 push. We can’t wait to see how things play out in a couple of years, but there are a lot of reasons for Texans to be hopeful.
