Tennis Betting Tips: One last dance for Djokovic and Nadal
My focus for Monday’s tennis betting tips comes from the Paris Olympics as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are set for what could be their final showdown.
There’s plenty of other intriguing clashes from the French capital, as players seek to claim Olympic gold and you can find my three picks below.
Tennis Betting Tips – Monday, July 29
Set Betting – Novak Djokovic to beat Rafael Nadal 2-0 @ 1/2
Tennis fans across the globe will be rubbing their hands together for this one – the 60th instalment in the rivalry between two of the all-time greats of the game. The head-to-head record is as close as it can be – 30-29 in Djokovic’s favour.
This will be Djokovic and Nadal’s first meeting since the 2022 Roland Garros quarter-finals on the same court, where Nadal emerged victorious in four sets. The pair also faced off in the semi-finals of the Beijing Olympics in 2008, where the Spaniard triumphed in three sets and ultimately claimed the gold medal while Djokovic won bronze.
However, this meeting is unique in the sense that it’s so early in a tournament – usually when these two clash, it’s in the latter stages. The reality is that Nadal hasn’t beaten a high-ranked opponent in two years, despite the flashes he’s shown in his comeback from injury this season.
Djokovic has been far from his imperious best, but he’s still playing at a better level than Nadal, which is why I believe the Serbian will emerge triumphant in straight sets.
Set Betting – Carlos Alcaraz to beat Tallon Griekspoor 2-0 @ 2/9
Alcaraz is enjoying a sensational season, and comes into this tournament off the back of winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
He cruised through his first-round match with Hady Habib, dropping just four games, and I don’t see him having too many problems here. Alcaraz has met the Dutchman two times previously, winning both encounters.
There’s a reason the odds are so stacked in favour of the Spaniard, and I’m backing him to win in straight sets.
Set Betting – Stefanos Tsitsipas to beat Dan Evans 2-0 @ 2/9
Evans has endured a tough season up until this point, and he made hard work of his first-round win over Moez Echargui.
The former British number one did enjoy an epic comeback victory in the doubles alongside Andy Murray, over Japanese pair Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori to move into the last 16, and he’ll be hoping to bring that momentum into this tie.
Tsitsipas, a two-time Grand Slam finalist and fine clay-court player, has disappointed in the Slams in recent months, lacking the consistency to make a deep run. However, the Greek has won all eight sets he has played against Evans in his career in routine fashion, suggesting that this is a favourable matchup for him, even more so on clay.
