- The Detroit Lions, who’ve never played in the game, are offering intriguing longshot odds to win the Super Bowl at +2200
- Another team with a betting line of +2500 worth a look are the Los Angeles Chargers
- At +4000, the New Orleans Saints are another Super Bowl longshot possibility to consider
Everyone loves it when a longshot comes in and that includes Super Bowl bettors. It’s the figuring of which longshot to play that is the challenging part of the equation when making your Super Bowl predictions.
Could this be the year that the Detroit Lions finally get over the hump and go to a Super Bowl game? What about the Los Angeles Chargers? Can they get past the juggernaut that is the Kansas City Chiefs in the competitive AFC West?
There’s no such worries for the New Orleans Saints. Their path to the NFC South title looks to be pretty smooth. Might that catapult them on a long playoff run?

Let’s look at how a case for each of these teams as legitimate Super Bowl longshot hopefuls can be made. But first, we’ll discuss the Super Bowl contenders that are topping the charts heading into the NFL regular season, the current favorites in the Super Bowl odds.
Who Is Favored to Win the Super Bowl In 2024
The two teams that contested Super Bowl 57 are entering Week 1 of the NFL season as the favorites to again meet in the Super Bowl. The reigning champion Chiefs are the +600 chalk. The defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles are right behind KC as the second betting choice at +800.
The Buffalo Bills, who haven’t played in a Super Bowl game since the 1990s, are the only other club with odds shorter than +1000. Buffalo is given a betting line of +900. Next in line are the San Francisco 49ers (+1000), Cincinnati Bengals (+1100) and Dallas Cowboys +1500.
Oddly enough, two of those teams – the Bills and the Bengals – have never won the Super Bowl. Buffalo (0-4) and Cincinnati (0-3) are a combined 0-7 in the big game.
Who Will Win the Super Bowl?
It’s easy to make a case for any of the above-mentioned teams as Super Bowl champions in 2024. Check the SBD NFL power rankings and those clubs occupy six of the top eight placings.
Yet there’s also reason to believe in the Lions. They’ve jumped from 25th to 11th in these rankings in one season. The Chargers check in at 12th spot, while the Saints are 14th overall.
Lions Are Sexy Super Bowl Pick
Bettors will tell you that over the past two seasons, Detroit is the Super Bowl champion of wagering on the NFL. The Lions own an NFL-best 67.7% against the spread (23-11) rate since Dan Campbell was named head coach.
It might not seem like a lot, but that 4% puts the Lions as one of the top 10 teams with the best chance to win the Super Bowl this season according to ESPN FPI. Why not us? The road begins tomorrow night in Kansas City. 🦁🔥📈#OnePride

This season, there’s a lot of belief that the Lions could be real NFL champions for the first time since 1957. Detroit fields one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses. The Lions are +140 favorites to win the NFC North.
Detroit, though, is the only NFC team that’s never played in the Super Bowl. The Lions haven’t won a division title since 1993 and are without a playoff victory since 1991.
Chargers Growing With Herbert
The Chargers have played in one Super Bowl in 1995, losing to the 49ers. Their only title win came in 1963 when they were an AFL club.
Austin Ekeler says the #Chargers have a chance of winning the Super Bowl as long as Justin Herbert is under center:

Led by QB Justin Herbert, the Chargers are steadily getting better in the tough AFC West. NBC Sports is projecting that not only will the Chargers be ending Kansas City’s dominance in the AFC West, they’ll be defeating the Eagles to win the Super Bowl.
Saints Could Go Marching On
In the NFL divisional odds, New Orleans is the +105 chalk to capture the NFC South title. The Saints have a new QB1 in veteran Derek Carr. He’s got weapons like RB Alvin Kamara and WR Michael Thomas and Chris Olave. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay is rebuilding and Atlanta and Carolina are going with kids under center.
According to the SBD strength of schedule model, New Orleans is also playing the NFL’s easiest slate. Certainly, there’s a pathway there for the Saints to go marching a long way this season.
