Sunday’s Top Tips: Gunners Can Make Super Sunday Title Statement

Sunday’s Top Tips: Gunners Can Make Super Sunday Title Statement

  • By Admin

Arsenal put their unbeaten start to the season on the line at home to champions Manchester City in this afternoon’s Super Sunday clash at the Emirates in a match that could go a long way to determining the title.

The Gunners gave City a good run for their money last season but if they’re to topple Pep Guardiola’s men they need to start winning this fixture. They’ve lost 15 of the last 16 meetings including 12 consecutive Premier League matches.

But City look a little vulnerable at the moment. They’ve lost two of their last three and it took a couple of late goals to secure all three points in Leipzig in midweek.

Even Erling Haaland seems to be in a bit of a lull at the moment having scored just once in his last four. But City’s biggest concern today could be the absence of Rodri.

The Spaniard serves the last of his three-match ban and he’ll be a big miss in Pep’s system. He’s been absent for City’s last three defeats and they’ve lost five of 15 games without him since he signed in 2018.

Arsenal look a bit steelier this season and are long overdue a win in this fixture. They can draw on their penalty shoot-out success against City in the Community shield and land the spoils today at 19/10.

It should be an entertaining affair on the south coast where Brighton host Liverpool.

The Reds’ controversial 2-1 defeat at Spurs last weekend ended a 17-match unbeaten run in the league whilst Brighton proved just how unpredictable they can be with a 6-1 hammering at the hands of Aston Villa.

Things are seldom dull with the Seagulls with nine of their 10 games this season seeing Over 3.5 goals. In total 43 goals have been scored (F23 A20) so no surprise to see the bookies price up three or more goals at just 1/3. Over 3.5 Goals pays 10/11.

The late goal line has been set ridiculously high at 82:00 by Bet365 but incredibly that would’ve landed in all of Liverpool’s last six matches, each of which have seen a goal scored in the 85th minute or later. It would also have landed in 50% of Brighton’s games so far. At 5/6 it might be worth taking on in the hope of lots of additional time.

Newcastle will still be on a high after their brilliant win over PSG in midweek and make the trip to West Ham on a run of six without defeat.

But it’s the Hammers that are higher in the table having gone a bit under the radar this season. Whilst the Magpies and the likes of Aston Villa and Brighton have earned lots of plaudits West Ham sit seventh and have the chance to move in to fifth with a win.

But dig a little deeper and you’ll see that nearly 50% of their points were won against newly promoted Luton and Sheffield United, whilst another three came from a win over a confidence-sapped Chelsea side. Defeats have come against Liverpool and Man City and if Newcastle have ambitions of a top four finish they need to be wining games like this.

Confidence will be sky high among Eddie Howe’s squad and that should carry them to victory at even money.

A rudderless Rangers make the short trip to Paisley for a lunchtime appointment with St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

The Buddies were 13/2 earlier in the week but had been cut to as short as 9/2 in places following Rangers’ surprise defeat to Cypriot minnows Aris Limassol.

The Gers looked bereft of ideas, confidence and quality on Thursday and rookie interim manager Steven Davis couldn’t have asked for a much tougher assignment today.

St Mirren remain unbeaten (W4 D3) and could go six points clear of the Glasgow giants with a win. They’ve not got a particularly good record in this fixture but might never get a better chance to put their near-neighbours to the sword.

Danilo and the influential Todd Cantwell will still be missing for Rangers and with the team still bearing the scars of defeat at home to Aberdeen and humiliation in Cyprus confidence must be at all time low.

St Mirren have eased a little, out to 11/2, and that’s a bet you simply have to take on given Rangers’ current plight.

Aberdeen will have been disappointed with their Euro showing on Thursday (1-1 v HJK Helsinki) but have the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways this afternoon against struggling St Johnstone.

The Dons are now unbeaten in four (W3 D1) whereas their visitors are still seeking their first win of the season.

Bojan Miovski grabbed his sixth goal of the season against HJK and his strike partner Duc can’t be far away from adding more goals to his game. If these two click it should be a comfortable win at 4/7.
