Sunday’s Racing Tips: Count D’Orsay to relish a drop in grade

Market Rasen racecourse

Horse racing on the flat holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Sunday, with five meetings taking place across the afternoon.

First off is Sligo before they go at Chelmsford, Market Rasen, Limerick and Ayr. Amongst our Sunday fancies is one for trainer Tim Easterby, whose latest effort is best excused and he can get back to winning ways by taking a step down in class. You can find all our Horse Racing Odds here.

Sunday’s Racing Tips

  • 1.45 Market Rasen – Ten Ten Twenty @ 9/4
  • 2.30 Ayr – Count D’Orsay @ 15/2
  • 4.35 Market Rasen – Itso Fury @ 11/2

Today’s Horse Races

1.45 Market Rasen – Ten Ten Twenty @ 9/4

Philip Kirby’s Asa posted a dominant display when scoring at Cartmel over 2m6f last time, but the 8lb rise in the weights combined with a drop in trip on a more galloping track makes the mare opposable at the prices.

The horse to take advantage is DJ Jeffreys’ TEN TEN TWENTY, who won over 1m4f on the Flat at Wolverhampton in April and was running on well to the line when runner-up over 2m at Worcester over hurdles last month.

Cian Chester who claims 10lb in the saddle now takes the ride, so he is effectively 9lb lower in the weights and the step up in trip is guaranteed to suit given the way he finished off his race last time. Ten Ten Twenty was rated 101 over hurdles at one point last year, so he looks thrown in.

2.30 Ayr – Count D’Orsay @ 15/2

Moving on to the opening 5f apprentice handicap at Ayr, and top weight COUNT D’ORSAY should have too much class for his rivals if he can bounce back from a tame effort at Chester when last seen.

That effort is easily excused as he was drawn out in stall 11 and had no real chance from his position, caught wide the entire way around and weakening once they turned the bend for home.

Back on a fairer track better can be expected, and he was narrowly denied by Digital at Hamilton from 1lb lower on his penultimate start last month. The winner has posted some good efforts in defeat subsequently off higher marks and it’s Count D’Orsay’s turn now.

4.35 Market Rasen – Itso Fury @ 11/2

Donald McCain’s Presentandcounting bounced back to form with an eye-catching fourth at Perth last month and commands respect, but ITSO FURY is the one to side with at the weights in the 2m5½f handicap.

Jonjo O’Neill’s seven-year-old disappointed on his chasing debut at Southwell last month, but he lacked fitness and experience on the day and he’s likely to come on a lot for that effort.

The handicapper has responded with a welcome 4lb drop in the weights and, if he can reproduce some of his best hurdles form over larger obstacles, he could be thrown in off his current chase mark.

Itso Fury needs to take a big step forward, but it could be on the way.
