Sunday Racing Tips: Teuchters looks set for Glory
Amongst our Sunday fancies is one for trainer Tom Mullins who is winless in 18 career starts, but this could be the mare’s day.
Cork is the sole surviving NH card in UK/Ireland today, and it’s there that we go for our selections.
Sunday Racing Tips
12:45 Cork – Teuchters Glory @ 7/1
Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead are all represented in the 2m1f maiden hurdle, but that should mean punters should get a good price on the Liam Burke-trained Teuchters Glory.
Burke created history as he became the oldest race winner under rules in 100-years when the then 66-year-old rode this horse to victory in a Limerick bumper back in March.
The seven-year-old son of Fame And Glory has run over hurdles three times. He finished fifth in a hot 2m Punchestown maiden hurdle in January before running third in a 2m3f Naas maiden hurdle in February, and was last seen finishing fifth over two miles behind the highly-regarded Ile Itlantique at Gowran Park on bottomless ground last month.
Teuchters Glory was in need of the run on seasonal reappearance but a much better showing can be expected now.
14:45 Cork – The Banger Doyle @ 10/3
Jumping errors proved very costly for The Banger Doyle backers at Thurles last month. John Queally’s seven-year-old was sent off the 9/4 favourite for the 2m4½f handicap hurdle, but four poor jumps put paid to his chances.
It is especially important that a horse jumps very well when they go from the front, but a return to two miles should suit as he possibly didn’t see out the trip too.
The Banger Doyle loves the mud so conditions should be perfect and this will only be the second time he will race in handicap hurdle company, so he could be potentially well treated.
He has some classy form in the book, including when having Blazing Khal behind when winning a Punchestown bumper in 2020, and if his jumping holds up he has a big chance.
15:15 Cork – C’est Rien @ 10/1
C’est Rien is winless in 18 career starts but Tom Mullins’ Walk In The Park mare has shown enough in recent starts to suggest she might find her way to the winner’s enclosure for the first time.
She doesn’t enjoy a sharp track, so it was no surprise to see her run on into fourth at Tramore when last seen. Usually always held up in rear, a more galloping track like Cork looks sure to suit.
Third at Fairyhouse over two miles in October, she was a big eyecatcher when rattling home late. Obviously things need to fall right for her as she’s a tricky mare, but 2m4f should be ideal, she handles soft ground well and a mark of 92 could prove lenient, while Michael O’Sullivan is a top jockey booking.
