Sunday Racing Tips: Caius Chorister on song at Pontefract

Racing on Sunday in the UK comes from Hexham, Ffos Las and Pontefract. The feature race at Pontefract is a Listed contest over 1m4f for fillies at 16:45.

One of our fancies comes in the highlight at Pontefract where a David Menuisier-trained horse can score at Listed level for the first time in her career.

Selections

  • Ffos Las 2:30 – Master Sully @ 11/4
  • Pontefract 4:45 – Caius Chorister @ 2/1
  • Pontefract 5:15 – Blow Your Horn @ 11/4

Tip 1

MASTER SULLY (11/4) has been successful just once so far in his career, but he has gone very close recently to adding to his tally of victories. He was beaten by just a nose at Brighton last month over their extended 5f trip.

Roger Teal’s runner was beaten by Notre Maison at Brighton on his latest appearance when the winner made all in that contest on the south coast. Unfortunately for Master Sully, the gaps did not appear for him in that race, which meant the best he could do was run on for third place.

The five-year-old sprinter features on the Betfred Betfinder as one of the most Napped selections this afternoon. In a small field at Ffos Las, there should be no hard luck stories this time, which gives him a great chance of reversing the form with Notre Maison.

Tip 2

CAIUS CHORISTER (2/1) has gone close this season on both of her two appearances on the track. She finished second on her seasonal reappearance at Epsom (1m2f), then, a couple of months later, stepped up to this 1m4f to come home as the runner-up at the same venue.

The Golden Horn filly has shown that this trip of 1m4f is not a problem for her. Three of her five career wins on turf have come over this distance and she has also featured over as far as 1m6f.

David Menuisier’s filly was in excellent form last season, winning five consecutive races. She deserves her place at this level, and should she step up on her two performances so far in the campaign, she can get her nose in front this time.

Tip 3

BLOW YOUR HORN (11/4) has been at the top of his game this month, as he has recorded back-to-back successes at Doncaster (1m6½f) and Beverley (2m) respectively. He now must defy a 4lb rise in the ratings over this 2m2f trip at Pontefract.

Ian Williams’ stayer was rated much higher than this mark earlier in his career, so if he continues to produce his best, he should still be ahead of the handicapper at the West Yorkshire racecourse.

This will be the first time that the son of Golden Horn has attempted this 2m2f trip. He did his best work in the closing stages of the 2m distance at Beverley last time out and, with another patient ride here, he is likely to have what it takes to pounce on his rivals inside the final couple of furlongs.
