Second Night of Back-to-Back
Los Angeles is going through its first back-to-back of the season with Saturday’s contest being the second night of that road-and-home back-to-back. This game will be the second of three games over five days for the Sparks, who face off against Seattle again on Tuesday in Seattle.
After a strong start to the season with a convincing 23-point win over Phoenix in the season opener on May 19, Los Angeles took a bit of a step back while losing two straight games to the Las Vegas Aces before bouncing back with a victory over Phoenix on Friday.

The Sparks have looked better than some expected at the early stages of the year, coming into Saturday with one of the top offenses in the WNBA. Los Angeles ranks third in the league in points per game (85.8) and is shooting a league-leading 38.1% from three while being led by Chiney and Nneka Ogwumike who are both averaging north of 15 points per game. The Sparks haven’t been as strong defensively, giving up 87.8 points per game to opposing offenses.
Still Looking For First Win
Seattle has struggled to start the 2023 season, entering Saturday as one of two teams without a win this season while sitting at the bottom of the league standings. Minnesota (0-6) is the only team coming into Saturday with a worse record than Seattle.
The Storm, who are in a rebuilding year after losing the likes of All-Stars Sue Bird (retirement) and Breanna Stewart (free agency), and this Seattle team is focused on the future rather than this season. That has been showcased through three games, with Seattle rankings eighth in the league in points per game (77.7) while giving up a league-worst 95.3 points to opponents.
Jewell Loyd and Ezi Megbagor have been two bright spots for Seattle this season, with Loyd averaging a league-best 26 points per game and Megbagor tallying 11.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.7 blocks per contest.

Key to the Game
The biggest keys to the game will come on the defensive end and who can hold the rebounding advantage, with both teams struggling through the first few games in both categories.
The Sparks rank 10th in defensive rating (104.1) with the Storm ranking last with a defensive rating of 113.9. On the glass, Seattle ranks 10th with 33.7 rebounds a game, and Los Angeles ranks last with 31.7.
Both teams struggle in similar areas, so it will be key to see which one shores up those issues in the first meeting of the season Saturday.
Storm vs Sparks Pick
When it comes to what we could see Saturday night, this game could be closer than some think while looking at the two teams talent-wise. Los Angeles has the best team on paper, but the Sparks will be playing in the second night of a back-to-back and could be fatigued. On the other side, Seattle has not looked great so far this season and is also playing on the road in Los Angeles.
By the end of the game, the Sparks should be able to defend home court despite it being the second game of a back-to-back. Expect Los Angeles to come out on top and keep Seattle winless after Saturday’s showdown.
As for the best bet of the night, this game will likely be a low-scoring one despite the oddsmakers thinking it could be a higher-scoring battle with an over/under of 166.5. With the Sparks a little fatigued and the Storm struggling offensively, the game could end up under that mark.
