It’s a shame armchair fans have been denied the opportunity to watch the emerging talent at the U21 European Championships but Channel 4 have saved the day by screening tonight’s final where England are on the brink of glory at the tournament for the first time since 1984.
Spain are the opposition and they’ve been the team to beat at this level in recent years, winning three of the last six editions of the tournament with the likes of De Gea, Mata, Thiago, Isco and Morata all picking up winners medals.
The 20,000 capacity Adjarabet Arena in Batumi, Georgia is tonight’s venue and that’s been home for two of England’s victories at the tournament so far including Wednesday’s 3-0 semi-final win over Israel.
Spain on the other hand have been based in Bucharest for their five matches to date so part of their preparation has including making their way across the Black Sea to the Georgian capital.
Both nations have been impressive en route to the final. The Young Lions remain unbeaten and have yet to concede a goal whist Spain’s only blemish was a 2-2 draw with Ukraine when qualification from B was already assured.
Needless to say the bookies are having some trouble separating the sides with both priced up at 10/11 to lift the trophy.
On the 90 minute market Lee Carsley’s men are slight favourites at 13/8 with Spain at 17/10. Those odds probably give us the best steer on how this might pan out and the draw looks attractive at 9/4.
England will be desperate to keep up their clean sheet record and it’s 9/4 that they keep Spain out for 90 minutes. No real surprise to see Over 2.5 goals as big as 43/40 either in what could be a cagey affair.
Over the course of last season the ‘No Goal Before’ was profitable for us and it’s always worth looking at in finals when there’s so much to lose. The line is set at 31:00 minutes by Bet365 and that would’ve landed in three of five of England and Spain’s matches to date.
