Salzburg vs Twente Prediction: Hosts to take the advantage
Red Bull Salzburg are hoping for better fortune in 2024/25. They were dethroned in the Austrian Bundesliga last term and have lost their automatic qualification to the Champions League group stage.
They have to navigate their way through the qualifiers and this third round pits them against Dutch side Twente, who they welcome to Red Bull Arena for the first leg on Tuesday (19:45). Read on for my Salzburg vs Twente prediction, featuring match odds and team news.

Red Bull Salzburg are 8/13 to win this match, giving them an implied probability of 61.9%. Twente are priced at 4/1, which gives them a 20% chance of victory. The draw can be backed at 11/4 (26.7%).
Both teams to score is on offer at 4/6 and over 2.5 goals is marketed at the same odds.
Team News
Another rebuild is taking place in Salzburg this summer. This is nothing new as this has happened many times before when their star talent is picked up. They have had to deal with the likes of Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane and Dominik Szoboszlai moving on.
However, this one is different because they have been knocked off their perch in the league by Sturm Graz. There has been a change in the dugout, with former Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders taking on his first management role, and he has his work cut out for him in year one.
He will be helped by having a prolific goalscorer in his ranks. Forward Karim Konate netted 20 goals in 29 league games last term, and Lijnders will be hoping he can get similar numbers from him again, as well as the goals needed to help Salzburg get into the Champions League group stage.
Alexander Shlager, Takumu Kawaruma and Fernando are unavailable due to injury. Oscar Gloukh is a doubt following his participation at the Olympics with Israel.
For Twente, Michal Sadilek is a doubt to feature due to injury, but manager Joseph Oosting has no other concerns ahead of the trip to Austria.
Salzburg and both teams to score @ 21/10
This Salzburg squad will have a point to prove after their disappointing campaign in 2023/24, and Lijnders will want to start the season off strongly by getting them into the Champions League group stage.
Having the home leg come first for them will suit them well, I think, and I am backing them to take the advantage into next week’s clash in the Netherlands. I have gone for them to win but have boosted the odds by adding both teams to score.
I can see Lijnders setting his side up for a statement victory on Tuesday to give them some breathing space ahead of the second leg. Konate will likely lead the line and he will present a huge threat to Twente’s back line.
Former Norwich City striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel is the front man for Twente and I think he can cause some nuisance of his own, having netted 16 goals in the Eredivisie last season to help his side finish third.
I can see both star strikers getting on the scoresheet here to help this selection land.
Over 3.5 goals @ 13/8
With that in mind, I don’t think there will be a shortage of goals at the Red Bull Arena on Tuesday evening. Salzburg are out to lay down a marker as they look to get back to the group stage, while also firing a warning to current Austrian Bundesliga champions Sturm Graz that they will be back with a vengeance in this campaign.
Last year was disappointing, but this is still a very talented crop of players that Lijnders has inherited – he just has to revert them back to winners, which shouldn’t be hard given his success at Liverpool at the side of Jurgen Klopp.
Their league campaign began over the weekend with a victory, in which they scored three goals. This bodes well for Tuesday against an opponent that is not as well-seasoned at this level of European football.
Lijnders’ men could be in for a fruitful evening in front of goal, which will help their aims for all competitions this year. Star striker Konate is already off the mark, and what would have been pleasing to see for the new boss was two different scorers over the weekend against Grazer. Over 3.5 goals landed in this match as they won 3-2, which is also worth noting.
Then when you add in the added attacking threat of Twente, I think we could see over 3.5 goals land with ease in this one.
