Ross County vs St Mirren Prediction: Buddies to deepen County’s relegation worries
European hopefuls St Mirren make the trip to Victoria Park on Tuesday (KO, 20:00) to face relegation-threatened Ross County in the Scottish Premiership.
County defeated rock-bottom Livingston 3-2 last time out, scoring the winner in injury time, but the Staggies remain in 11th place and, as things stand, will be going into the Premiership play-off final tie for the second straight season.
St Mirren have loftier ambitions and sit in fifth position, just two points behind Kilmarnock, who will go into the second round of qualifying for the Europa Conference League if they hold that place.
Team News
County are unable to call upon Scott Allardice, who will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury picked up at the end of January, while Will Nightingale is out until April because of a hamstring issue.
Dylan Smith is also unavailable as he continues to recover from an ankle problem.
St Mirren are missing Conor McMenamin due to a knee injury, while Ryan Strain is still in the treatment room with a groin problem sustained in late November.
Match Odds
Ross County are 2/1 to pick up all three points on home soil, with the draw priced at 21/10 and St Mirren 6/4 favourites to claim the spoils.
St Mirren won 2-0 when these sides met in December and a repeat of that result is available at 11/1.
St Mirren to win @ 6/4
County may have ended their dreadful 11-match run without a win in all competitions last time out, but they were made to work hard by a Livingston side that are cut adrift at the bottom and required a 92nd-minute winner to grab the victory.
Interim boss Don Cowie will be worried by those defensive lapses against a team that have netted only 18 times in the league, and similar mistakes at the back will be punished by St Mirren.
The Buddies returned to winning ways with a 2-0 success over St Johnstone on Saturday, making it three victories from their last four top-flight matches, and they are right in the mix for a European finish.
St Mirren have won two of their last three away assignments, beating both Aberdeen and Hibernian 3-0, and they should have enough to get the job done at Victoria Park.
Greg Kiltie to score anytime @ 18/5
St Mirren haven’t been the most prolific in front of goal this season, with Mikael Mandron their top scorer in the league with six goals, but they should have more success against a County side that have the joint-worst defensive record.
One player that looks a big price to find the back of the net for the Buddies is Greg Kiltie, who has netted four times from 27 Scottish Premiership appearances.
The 27-year-old has scored penalties in two of the last three away fixtures and he can notch on the road again.
