Ukraine kicked off their European Under-21 Championships with a comfortable victory over Croatia and there is every chance they can follow that up with another three points against joint hosts Romania.
Romania, who are sharing hosting responsibilities with Georgia, were eventually outclassed in their opener as they went down 3-0 against one of the pre-tournament favourites, Spain.
Ukraine dispatched Croatia 2-0 to get off to the perfect start and the fact they managed to do that without having to call upon the services of Mykhaylo Mudryk, who was an unused substitute, is quite striking.
Romania U21 vs Ukraine U21 Betting Tips:
Team news
Although shipping three goals against Spain, Emil Sandoi is not expected to make wholesale changes to his Romania side and the same starting XI could be handed another chance to impress.
For Ukraine, Mudryk is likely to come into the starting XI in place of Maksym Bragaru and Bogdan Viunnyk is in line to replace Oleksiy Kashchuk after he picked up an injury.
Ukraine to win to nil @ 23/10
The way Ukraine eased past Croatia was very pleasing to see and that victory extended their unbeaten streak to three matches, having beaten Kuwait 2-0 and drawn 2-2 with the Republic of Ireland in friendlies.
In terms of competitive action, Ukraine have won three of their last four outings – three of those coming to nil – while they have scored two or more goals in four of their last five matches (including friendlies).
Another victory looks like it will be coming the way of Ruslan Rotan’s side and it would be no surprise to see them record another shutout against their goal-shy opponents.
Romania have now gone four matches without scoring a goal and even though they will be spurred on by a partisan home crowd at Stadionul Steaua, Bucharest, they will find it hard to break down a solid Ukraine defence.
Mykhaylo Mudryk to score anytime @ 11/5
Although Mudryk has struggled to shine since making the move to Chelsea, he still boasts considerable quality and Ukraine will be hoping he can produce this throughout the U21 tournament.
The 22-year-old recently played for the senior side in Euro 2024 qualifiers and he registered two assists in the 3-2 comeback victory over North Macedonia, so his game is clearly in good shape.
With more scoring responsibility on his shoulders for the U21s, Mudryk is expected to turn on the heat on Romania and find the back of the net, which is priced up at a generous 11/5.
