R.I.P Tucker ???? ❤️//Oct 31 2013 – Nov 9 2019

The life and story behind the passing of Tucker ❤.

This is our very detailed story written by the owner of Tucker “Ashlee Rogers”

This is going to be a difficult review for me to write, but I need to share my experience with others to help them. First of all, I’m not claiming that CBD cures cancer. Justin and I had that discussion when we first met. Although there have been studies that have helped with slowing down the process of reproduction of cancer cells and stopping the growth of the tumour. We both knew the type of cancer that Tucker had (osteosarcoma) had no cure and the only solution for dogs with bone cancer was amputation. However, we knew that CBD oil would offer a sense of relief for him. Unfortunately, Tucker was not a candidate for amputation. The tumour was located right on his hip and surgery would have been too aggressive. Most of the time, when a dog is diagnosed with osteosarcoma the survival rate is extremely low. Untreated, there is only pain management and dogs are given 1-2 months max and because the time of the diagnosis they cancer has already spread to the lungs. If treated with amputation, the dog can last 6 months to 1 year, it is very rare they last longer than that because it usually ends up spreading to the lungs. Luckily, it did not spread to his lungs yet. Justin had come to my house many times to visit Tucker. Tucker was always excited to see him. There were times where I would run out and have to lower Tuckers dose because I wouldn’t be able to get it in time. Justin would do his best to be there immediately for Tucker. If that doesn’t show someone who truly cares about animals, I don’t know what does. He supported Tucker through his journey and we can’t thank him enough. He would check in with him often.

This all stated when Tucker began to limp in the summer, I’d say middle of June. He was an extremely hyper dog, so we weren’t surprised and thought maybe he over exerted his leg. My dad had taken him to the vet for his annual shots and got some blood work done to check for anything. Nothing showed up, so he was put on gabapentin for his pain. While Tucker was on that medication he wasn’t limping as much, and we figured it was starting to go away. We took him back again to the vet another time and the vet still couldn’t figure out what was wrong. July passed, and it has been about a month or so of him being on his medication, which he finished but he was still limping, and we thought he might have torn his leg. I then wanted to get a second opinion from another vet, so I took him to a vet where I lived. The vet checked his entire leg and said his leg is strong there’s no tear. She told us to come back for x-rays. August 13, 2019, we had a vet appointment for Tucker to get x-rays. Tucker was excited to be there he loved Dr. Woods and all the staff that worked there. Part of the reason I think is because they gave him a ridiculous amount of treats when he was there lol. Tucker got his x-rays done while he was getting them done, we could hear all 5 staff struggling with him and laughing because he was strong and kept licking them. For anyone who knows Tucker knows how hilarious he is but how stubborn he is. Dr. Woods came back in and showed us his x-rays. On the x-rays it showed on his left hip a “moth eaten bone” and the one was completely healthy. She looked at us and said, “I’m so sorry but Tucker has a bone cancer called osteosarcoma – it is the same cancer that Terry Fox had and same location.” My heart sank it didn’t really feel real with him only being 5 years old. The cause of it is unknown and sometimes dogs develop it but it’s rare for a younger dog to get osteosarcoma. We left there, and I cried the whole way home while Tucker sat with me. Of course, he didn’t understand it but he knew something was wrong. Tucker was given 3 different medications even though they managed the pain, he was a zombie; Just tired and not his normal self. His prognosis was 1-2 months max.
