PSG vs Real Sociedad Prediction: Stubborn Spanish side can frustrate Parisians
The razzmatazz of the Champions League returns this midweek as Paris Saint-Germain resume their quest for that elusive European crown on Wednesday night as they host Real Sociedad in the French capital.
Luis Enrique will be desperate to succeed where his predecessors have failed, and it begins with a tie against the team currently 7th in La Liga. Here’s how we think this one will pan out.
Team News
Presnel Kimpembe, Milan Skriniar, Sergio Rico, Nuno Mendes and Layvin Kurzawa all remain out for Luis Enrique presenting him with a shortage of defenders. The win over Lille saw PSG rotate heavily in preparation for this tie, with Kylian Mbappe, Achraf Hakimi and Marquinhos all expected to come back in. Warren Zaire-Emery has established himself as a key player this term and should play a big part here.
The visitors are without Kieran Tierney, Aihen Munoz, Alvaro Odriozola, Carlos Fernandez and Sheraldo Becker – while key man Mikel Oyarzabal is likely to miss out having been absent from their last two matches. Hamari Traore and Robin Le Normand are expected to come back into the team in defence, while Takefusa Kubo will start up front.
Match Odds
PSG are priced at 4/6 for the win, while Real Sociedad are the outsiders at 9/2. A draw can be backed at 11/4, BTTS is 5/6 and over 2.5 goals is also 5/6.
Under 2.5 goals @ 5/6
Both teams have scored in PSG last five matches and there have been over 2.5 goals in all of those fixtures – so you may think I’ve lost my mind with this pick. They’ve got defensive issues with a whole host of injuries, but given this is a two-legged tie, this fixture takes on a whole different dynamic.
I don’t think Real Sociedad will come to win this game at all. I think they’ll try and get a draw and they have been so impressive defensively of late. 0-0, 0-0, 0-0, 0-1. Those have been their last four results and Imanol Alguacil will know another stalemate will represent a huge success in their bid to progress from this tie.
Without Mikel Oyarzabal, Real Sociedad are unlikely to score at the Parc des Princes, and I believe they will be able to keep Kylian Mbappe and co down to a respectable scoreline. They won’t be blown away here, and should still have a chance heading back to Spain.
No goalscorer @ 10/1
Just to repeat Real Sociedad’s last four results – 0-0, 0-0, 0-0, 0-1. They are the 0-0 specialists and given that price is 10/1, I wouldn’t be against you going for a correct score, however strange it seems to back against PSG to score.
I believe we can be a bit smarter using the same logic though. The price on ‘no goalscorer’ is also 10/1. That gives us the benefit of this bet allowing for own goals to be scored. If PSG win 1-0 but the goal is an own goal, this 10/1 bet will still come in. I’m a big fan of this longshot.
