Although I’ve lived in Victoria for many years, I grew up in Adelaide and am still a regular visitor back there to see family, so I’ve been aware of this month’s Famous Last Words Podcast guest for many years.
Mike Drewer was a part of the local Channel Seven News team, and highly regarded as one of the cities prominent Public Relations consultants. Being a petrolhead, Mike landed his dream job as Chief of the Media Department for the first Adelaide F1 Grand Prix in 1985 which he held for 11 years and for a couple of years after that when the F1 moved to Melbourne. He was instrumental in the early days of the Clipsal 500 V8 Supercar race around the streets of Adelaide and it’s not surprising that he still has an involvement in motor racing, but now in a very different way.
Mike and his son Tom are very keen Salt Lake Speed Racers and recently returned from Lake Gairdner in the South Australian Outback, where Tom recorded a run of nearly 170 mph in their 1964 VW Beetle powered by a very hot turbocharged Subaru WRX motor.
Mike has some great stories to tell, so I hope you enjoy this month’s Famous Last Words Podcast with Mike Drewer.
