Although the Arizona Diamondbacks are holding their breath over Corbin Carroll, however, as the rookie phenom was ruled out of their game Thursday with a shoulder injury.

While batting in the seventh inning against the New York Mets, Carroll swung and missed, and immediately after the backswing, he grabbed his right shoulder. He was clearly in pain and was immediately escorted off the field by the Diamondbacks’ athletic trainers.

Eventually, the Diamondbacks lost the game 9-0. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo told reporters after the game that the team received “encouraging news” and that “shoulder strength and stability were fine” in preliminary testing, with more details on Friday.

Though the right shoulder injury is particularly troubling because the 22-year-old Carroll underwent surgery in 2021 to repair a posterior capsular dislocation and labral tear in the same shoulder that caused him to miss most of the season. He was ruled out of another game early last week due to a “really weird feeling” in his shoulder, apparently avoiding the scare without serious issue.
