Former star tight end Rob Gronkowski spent much of his illustrious career catching passes from fellow future Hall of Famer Tom Brady.
During a recent interview on the Roommates Show podcast, Brady praised Gronkowski and revealed a surprising truth about his practice routine.
“See like a lot of NFL receivers after practice they go over to the jugs machine and they just pump balls through the jugs machine,” Brady said. “And the receivers would catch like 100, 200, 300 passes.
“I never once saw Gronk on the jugs machine and he had the greatest hands of like anybody I’ve ever played with.”
Friendly banter aside, the two formed the league’s best passing game duos, which helped them win four Super Bowls together (three with the New England Patriots, one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers).
The lack of use of the jugs machine didn’t stop Gronkowski from reaching the heights he did throughout his 11 NFL seasons. He set numerous records, such as becoming the first tight end to lead the NFL in touchdowns in a single season.
Before the Kansas City Chiefs star duo of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, Brady and Kelce held the NFL playoff record with 15 passing touchdowns.

Gronkowski also holds the Patriots’ all-time record with 79 touchdown receptions, the most games with multiple touchdowns (16), and the most games with 100-plus receiving yards (26).
Meanwhile, he holds the playoff record for a tight end with 364 receiving yards in Super Bowl history and is the first tight end with 1,000-plus career postseason receiving yards.
