Happy flippin’ Pancake Day, OJO gang! The wait is over – we’ve all finally got an excuse to tuck into a mountain of delicious pancakes for dinner without feeling guilty. Everyone has a different topping preference, whether it’s your classic lemon and sugar, some refreshing fruit or a savoury option like bacon. But some of us prefer some strange pancake toppings.

1. Tiramisu

Mmm, the first of our strange pancake toppings has all the hallmarks of being a classic. Chocolate? Cream? Espresso and dessert wine? Why not!

We’re not sure it’s what the Italians had in mind when they invented the dish, but the crazy combination is right up our street.

2. Paneer

We all love a Friday night curry and with veggie options growing in popularity, paneer has never been so in demand. Nothing quite hits the spot like a spoonful of saag paneer on a fresh naan bread – but how would you feel about it on a pancake?

More like paneercake, right guys?! Well, it’s one craze that seems to be taking off. Don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it, we suppose!

3. Pizza

There’s a reason pizza is one of the most popular foods in the world, but there’s a time and a place for it. Is that on Pancake Day? That’s for you to decide!

But if you fancy treating your pancake like a pizza base, fill your boots. Smother it in a tomato sauce, drizzle it with grated cheese and throw on whatever toppings you fancy, whether it’s pepperoni, veg or even the controversial pineapple. Bon Appetit!

We know it’s consumed more than water oop north, but do we really have to put gravy on everything?!

There is some logic in having it on a pancake as they’re made of the same batter as a Yorkshire pudding. But some people use that as an excuse to turn theirs into a full roast dinner. Hey, whatever floats your gravy boat!

5. Tuna

Feeling fishy? Believe it or not, we’ve seen a few people on social media adding tuna to their pancakes.

Look, we’re not here to judge you for what you get up to in the comfort of your own kitchen. Just don’t bring your leftovers in to heat up in the office microwave!

6. Cheeseburger

Hi, is that Ronald McDonald? We’ve got a new item for your breakfast menu. Say hello to the cheeseburger pancake!

Enjoy this classic but instead of a burger bun, just fill a couple of thick pancakes with a patty, a slice of cheese and whatever garnishes you fancy. Phwoar, just make sure you schedule in some time for a nap afterwards!

7. Fizzy Drinks

Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting you drizzle lemonade all over your freshly flipped pancakes (unless that’s your vibe!). Instead, some people like to add a splash of coke, cream soda or any other fizzy drink to their pancake batter.

Not only does it give them a fluffier texture, but it also adds an extra bit of zing. Top tip: they go great with a nice dollop of ice cream.
