- Check out the latest Padres vs Tigers odds below, as well as our best bet and predictions
With the MLB Trade deadline just over a week away, the Padres (48-51, 23-28 away) need victories to persuade general manager A.J. Preller to keep the band together. Another win against the Tigers (44-54, 20-27 home) on Sunday, July 23rd might help keep the team intact for at least a few more days. Read on for an analysis of the Padres vs Tigers.
A full schedule of baseball on Sunday begins with the San Diego and Detroit, with the first pitch scheduled for 12:05 pm ET from Comerica Park in Motown. This game will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and Peacock.
Expected to be a strong contender in the division odds to start the year, the Padres now sit at +2200 with only the Rockies owning longer odds. Below, you can find the Padres vs Tigers odds for the series finale as well as our best bet and picks.
Padres vs Tigers Odds
Team | Moneyline | Runline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
San Diego Padres | -235 | -1.5 (-140) | O 8.5 (+100) |
Detroit Tigers | +195 | +1.5 (+120) | U 8.5 (-120) |
Winners in four of their last five, the Padres are big -235 moneyline favorites to close out their 10-game road trip with another victory. Home field hasn’t been kind to the Tigers this season, as only three teams have fewer wins as hosts in all of baseball.
Forecasts are saying it should be beautiful weather when the first pitch gets thrown out, with the temperature hovering around 81 degrees, although there is a risk of thunderstorms later in the afternoon, so hopefully they get this one in before any downpours.

San Diego vs Detroit Probable Pitchers
Don’t look at starting pitching as one of the reasons for the Padres’ struggles this season. They are one of the top teams in the league in team ERA and veteran Joe Musgrove continues to bask in the Southern California sun in his third year with the team.

The big righty has a 9-2 record with a 3.16 ERA this season and has only given up more than two earned runs in an outing once in the last two months, owning most of the MLB lineups he’s faced over that time.
Since the start of June, the 30-year-old is a perfect 7-0 with a 1.80 ERA in nine starts. Facing a Tigers squad that ranks at or near the bottom of the league in most major offensive categories, expect Musgrove’s summertime dominance to continue.
Musgrove vs Faedo Stats
9-2 | Record | 1-4 |
3.16 | ERA | 6.98 |
1.14 | WHIP | 1.08 |
.247 | OBA | .239 |
4.8 | SO/W Ratio | 7.0 |
On the other side, Alex Faedo will be looking to put his last MLB start behind him. He was placed on the injured list in early June with right middle finger discomfort and has only made one start since getting rocked for seven runs against the Blue Jays a couple of weeks ago.
Faedo was optioned to the Toledo Mud Hens the following day, just before the All-Star break. His sole outing with Toledo was July 18th and he impressed, pitching five innings, while giving up just two hits and one run. He also had nine punch outs.
Keeping the ball in the park has been an issue for the 27-year-old who has given up seven long bombs in only six starts this campaign. If he’s able to stay away from the long ball, the Tigers will have a chance, as Faedo has an excellent WHIP and strikes out seven batters for each free pass he gives up.
Padres vs Tigers Picks
This is the final contest of a long 10-game road trip for the Padres. Next up at home for them are the struggling Pittsburgh Pirates, so it’s important they end their travels with a victory in an attempt to keep their team together before the trade deadline.

With Musgrove on the hill against the unproven ???, San Diego has a decided advantage in the MLB odds. The Padres starter has not lost a decision in 10 starts, and his squad has run by at least two runs or more in seven of those 10 games.
Detroit has been successful in keeping games tight this season, but this isn’t the game for that. In Musgrove’s July appearances, the Padres have won by an average of five runs against better opponents than the Tigers, so our prediction is that San Diego closes this road trip out with a big win.
Pick: San Diego Padres Run Line -1.5 (-140)
