The 13th-ranked BYU Cougars (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) look to remain perfect on the season as they host the Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-3, 0-3 Big 12).

The Cowboys are sliding, having dropped three straight, and remain one of three Big 12 schools yet to win a conference game.

It’s no surprise they are nearly double-digit road underdogs in the college football odds.

The Cougars, who have won four of six games this year by at least 20 points, are just 9.5-point favorites in a game featuring a total of 52.5.

Talk about complimentary football: BYU is one of just 11 FBS teams that rank inside the Top 30 in both scoring offense and defense.

For the year, they are putting up 34.3 points per game, while allowing just 16.3 per contest. Those are both Top-3 marks in the Big 12, and a big reason why they share a piece of the top with both Iowa State and Texas Tech.

The Cougars are coming off a 41-19 pasting of the Arizona Wildcats, marking the fifth time they’ve topped 30 points in a game this season, and the fifth time they’ve held an opponent under 20.

Quarterback Jake Retzlaff is completing 60.3% of his passes, throwing for 1,426 yards with 14 TDs against just five interceptions. He’s also leading the rush attack with 184 yards and a score on the season.

It has been far from smooth for the Cowboys, who got clubbed 38-14 by the West Virginia Mountaineers, putting them 0-3 in the Big 12.

The defense has surrendered 80 points over the last two games, and the 27.2 average on the year is the third-worst scoring defense in the conference.

Oklahoma State can put up points, but over the last three games (all losses), they’ve scored 20 or less each time.

What’s most surprising for Oklahoma State is their inability to do damage in the run game. Even with returning Doak Walker Award winner Ollie Gordon II, the Cowboys are putting up just 91.2 rush yards per game — only Colorado is worse in the Big 12.

Their defense has been cratered by the opposition run game. Oklahama State allows a whopping 235 yards per contest and a healthy average of 5.5 yards per pop — last in the conference.

The Cowboys are a potent passing attack: their 299 yards per game ranks 15th in the nation, butt QB Alan Bowman has not been good with the ball of late, throwing two interceptions in each of their last three losses.

BYU is tied at the Top of the Big 12 in interceptions with 10, so they should be well-equipped to handle that side of the Cowboys’ offense.

BYU is a perfect 3-0 at home this season and 6-0 against the spread, including three times as a betting favorite. Look for both streaks to extend on Friday.
