James Maddison suffered relegation with Leicester City not a fortnight ago but clubs throughout the Premier League look like they are lining up to bring him back to the top flight. We take a look at the latest odds in this market available on Betfred…
Newcastle have long been linked with the Leicester playmaker and it comes as no surprise that we have opened our market with Eddie Howe’s men leading the chase for player. We are offering odds of 11/10 that he is playing his home games up in the North East next season.
Last summer and in the January Transfer Window, widespread reports linked the Toon with official approaches for the midfielder but both times they were rebuffed by Leicester. Had you asked any Geordie fan a year ago whether they wanted the 26-year-old then the general consensus would have been a very strong yes but now opinion on the forums seems more split as they are looking for a slightly better calibre of player. What we do know is that Newcastle have had serious interest in the past. Whether that is still the case, we’ll find out.
If Spurs do sell Harry Kane this summer then they’ll have the best part of £100million burning a hole in their pocket and Maddison feels like a very Spurs-type signing. There is no doubt that he has plenty of qualities going forward and could link up very well with Son Heung-min. If the Toon decide not to be aggressive then this move would make a lot of sense. 4/1 here.
Manchester United are the next club listed at 6/1 and this could be a cheaper backup plan in case they fail to sign Declan Rice. Whether he fits in with Bruno Fernandes is very much a question mark but that is for Erik ten Hag to figure out rather than the likes of me. Arsenal are also up at 8s but they look highly likely to attract the services of the West Ham captain, so would not be interested in a second midfielder.
Leicester are priced up at 10s to keep hold of the fringe England player and that feels way too short. Maddison is just too good for the Championship and the Foxes will need to cash in on him to rebuild their squad in an attempt to make a quick return to the top flight
Aston Villa, Chelsea and Liverpool are all listed at 16s with the first two unlikely due to the fact they have good attacking midfield options already within their ranks and Maddison feels a bit too good for Aston Villa. Man City and Bayern Munich are available at 25s with West Ham the 33/1 outsider in this market.
