Newcastle Tips: David to make the dash pay off
Friday, Nov 10th – NINE races to enjoy, on Newcastle’s all-weather Tapeta surface, between 15.08 and 19.20.
Lots of top northern-based pros are in action, plus one of our favourites, the Champion Apprentice Billy Loughnane.
Very respectable field sizes, too. Should be an excellent afternoon/early evening of sport on Tyneside.
15.08 – Luna Effect @ 15/8
Top connections here – owners King Power Racing, trainer Roger Varian, and jockey David Egan – his only booked ride as I write.
It’s a Class 5 handicap over a midge in excess of a mile-and-a-half, for 3-yr-olds and upwards – and Luna Effect is knocking loudly on the door now in terms of troubling the judge.
Beautifully bred, by Sea The Stars out of a Street Cry mare, his last effort was readily his best, a mere head denying him victory at Yarmouth 25 days ago at a slightly shorter trip. Wore a hood for the first time there, and repeats the trick on Friday.
Egan makes the trip up north for this one mount and I can see him being rewarded for his efforts.
16.12 – Silky Robin @ 7/1
Cracking 5f novice stakes contest for 2-yr-olds. Silky Robin has run just once, here, 4 weeks ago. He finished a close-up third, running on, in a similar contest. Graham Lee was in the plate, and once again is on top on Friday.
Lee rode another of today’s fancied rivals Circus Lion on both his career starts for trainer Bryan Smart, but remains here with Silky Robin. It might not be as straightforward as the jockey signalling his preference, but I still see it as a very positive sign that the partnership is retained.
Familiarity with this Tapeta surface will stand him in good stead, and that last strong-finishing effort was all the more meritorious given he met trouble in running before making his challenge. Nice price, and offers some genuine value in my book.
