The Atlanta Braves (85-71, 42-33 home) are in a position few thought they would be coming into the home stretch of the regular season: in real jeopardy of missing the playoffs. Sitting 1.5 games back of Arizona for the third NL Wild Card, and two back of the New York Mets (87-69, 41-34 away), Atlanta has just six games to make up the ground, including tonight’s game against the Mets at Truist Park, which kicks off a three-game series between the bitter NL East rivals.

First pitch tonight is scheduled for 7:20 pm ET and the Mets vs Braves odds give Atlanta a slight edge. The Braves range from -136 to -145 moneyline favorites with promising rookie Spencer Schwellenbach on the mound. The Mets’ moneyline ranges from +116 to +120. The table at the bottom of the page shows where to find the best Mets vs Braves odds for every type of bet.

New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves Predictions & Picks

I am backing a couple good performances from the starting pitchers on Tuesday night for a couple reasons. First, both pitchers have been excellent recently, indeed for the entire month of September. Severino has a 2.81 ERA in four starts this month and has lasted at least 6.0 innings in all three. Schwellenbach, meanwhile, has put up a 3.18 ERA in four September starts, following on the heels of a brilliant July (2.08) and solid August (3.07). He’s gone at least 5.0 innings in each of his last four starts – and 16 of his last 17, which is startling consistency for a rookie – allowing just eight runs in 22.2 innings in the process.

Schwellenbach’s strikeouts have dipped a bit in September (16 in 22.2 innings) but, overall, he’s still averaging 9.68 K/9.

Both pitchers have also been solid against today’s opponent this year. Severino has made two starts against the Braves, giving up four runs over 10.0 innings with ten strikeouts, 11 hits, and four walks. Schwellenbach dominated the Mets in his only start against New York, pitching 7.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with a career-high 11 strikeouts on July 27.

New York’s offense has also been mediocre on the road of late, averaging 4.25 runs per game in its last 12 away from home, compared to 4.81 RPG for the season as a whole. And Atlanta’s offense has been positively disappointing at home over the last four series, scoring just 39 total runs in the last 11 home games (3.55 RPG), a big part of why their World Series odds have sunk all the way to +3500.

As mentioned, there is some variation in the moneyline prices for Tuesday’s Mets vs Braves odds. The best Atlanta moneyline by a considerable margin is at FanDuel, where the Braves are priced at -136 to win. They are shorter than -140 everywhere else. Most books, including ESPN Bet, have the Mets at +120. ESPN Bet also has the best odds on the New York runline, listing the Mets at -175 to keep the score within a run.

Caesars, BetMGM, and bet365 all list the Braves runline at -1.5 (+150) in Tuesday’s MLB odds.

When it comes to the game total, all books save one have the number at 8.0. Most also have the over favored at -115, but BetMGM still lists the O/U at -110 both ways. The only book that doesn’t have the total at 8.0 is ESPN Bet, which has raised it half a run to 8.5 but with the under favored at -120.
