One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda confirmed there will be One Piece Live Action Season 2.
After the massive success of the first season, the live-action adaptation of One Piece will be returning for a second season on Netflix. Through a video, Oda confirmed not only the new season but also the inclusion of one of the series’ most beloved characters, Chopper.
The announcement comes after producer Marty Adelstein confirmed that all scripts for One Piece Season 2 were ready. While the show received the green light, it cannot go into production for the foreseeable future due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
One Piece Season 2 plot
The One Piece live-action took creative liberties when it came to adapting the events from the manga. Characters that show up later in the story, like Arlong, were introduced earlier.
Despite the changes, season one of Netflix’s One Piece barely covered 90 chapters of the manga. The story is still ongoing and consists of 1090 chapters so far. It will take a couple of years until the manga is over.
Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 would cover Volume 11 and onward. In Volume 11, Buggy and Alvida team up to take vengeance on Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. The crew also reaches the Grand Line, where they are swallowed by a whale. In Volume 16, Chopper is introduced to the story.
If the story covers at least ten more volumes, there will be plenty of enemies to defeat.
One Piece Season 2 release date
The release date for Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 is yet to be confirmed. Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, productions cannot start or resume. The strike was expected to end by September of 2023, but now it’s looking like it might take longer.
“Realistically, hopefully, a year away, if we move very quickly, and that is a possibility,” said Becky Clements, president of Tomorrow Studios. “Somewhere between a year and 18 months, we could be ready for air.”
The team behind Netflix’s One Piece said they have plans for at least six seasons but are hoping for at least 12.
