- Read below for Nebraska vs Ohio State prediction, picks and odds
On Saturday, October 26, 2024, college football fans get treated to some nice refreshing Fall weather. Now, the Nebraska Cornhuskers take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Big Ten.
This game comes as Ohio State rolls off a bye week. Nebraska’s bye week was two weeks ago. Ohio State is 2-1 in conference play, while Nebraska is 2-2.
The Ohio State Buckeyes entertain the Nebraska Cornhuskers as 6.5-point favorites, with the over/under set at 50.5 points, according to BetMGM Sportsbook. The game will be on FOX, with kickoff scheduled promptly for Noon EDT.
Nebraska vs Ohio State Prediction
Nebraska and Matt Rhule came off the bye week and fell flat on their faces. Despite an injury to Kurtis Rourke, the Indiana offense throttled the Nebraska defense all afternoon. The result was a 56-7 rout as Tayven Jackson did not miss a beat for Rourke, and Indiana ran for over 200 yards. The 5-2 Cornhuskers travel to Columbus to face Ryan Day and Ohio State.
The Cornhuskers and Dylan Raiola came unglued against Indiana last week. Raiola threw three interceptions and struggled to find open receivers. Some debate that the Rutgers game left a blueprint on how to defend against Nebraska’s passing attack. Ohio State will want to tee off this week and employ some blitzing strategies as the Scarlet Knights did three weeks ago.
DYK: Huskers have lost 26 straight vs Top 25 opponents since 2016 & have dropped 17 straight vs ranked opponents on the road since winning at #12 PSU in 2011. Dylan Raiola’s pass efficiency rating, 90.0 since Wk 6, is 3rd-lowest among FBS QBs w/at least 35 attempts over that span pic.twitter.com/meBWydU7eQ

Raiola, a Freshman, faces some huge mental hurdles in this game. For one, he cannot make big mistakes early. That compounded all the things that went wrong against Indiana.
Ohio State Angry And Ready
Yes, Indiana attacked the Nebraska defense and went right at them. Before Kurtis Rourke got hurt, he made one mistake, but was able to find receivers with ease. He had four incomplete attempts in 21 passes. Will Howard, at home, should be able to employ the same kind of patience via a solid offensive line.
The Ohio State Buckeyes can pile on the points, averaging 43.5 a contest. Their balance is close as Ohio State averages 31.7 passes a content while running the ball 35.2 times a game.
The only concern with Ohio State is do they come out too angry. Ohio State wants to prove the loss to Oregon was a fluke. Now, the Buckeyes had the game won. They were up 28-22 after three quarters and could not close the game out. Dillon Gabriel scrambling for a huge touchdown is something that will not happen again.
I’m predicting an Ohio State win and cover. The Buckeyes will make a statement. Nebraska showed last week that they still have much to learn.
Nebraska-Ohio State Pick:
- Ohio State -25.5 (-110)
Nebraska vs Ohio State Spread
College football Week 9 spreads are out for Nebraska vs Ohio State and that Navy-Notre Dame tussle also at Noon ET.
The First Half Spread Is 14.5
A nod toward the first-half spread at 14.5 is reasonable. Besides the Will Howard alt passing props (275+ yards and 3+ touchdowns), the -102 at DraftKings is reasonable. We believe Ohio State will carry a greater than two-score lead going into halftime.
Nebraska vs Ohio State Odds
Ohio State is favored by 25.5 points with -4000 moneyline odds, implying a 97.56% win probability for Ohio State. Nebraska are now +1600 underdogs, representing a mere 5.89% chance to win, per the oddsmakers.
The total is set at 48.5 points, with even -110 juice for each side. This offers some leeway as Ohio State comes off a bye week and lost to Oregon two weeks ago. Nebraska tries to improve on what happened in Indiana in Week 8.

Bettors are split on the spread, and the money seems to be going to Nebraska a little.
Nebraska vs Ohio State Head to Head
The programs have met eight times in the past 13 years, with the last four results going as follows:
- Nov 6, 2021: Ohio State 26, Nebraska 17
- Oct 24, 2020: Ohio State 52, Nebraska 17
- Sep 28, 2019: Ohio State 48, Nebraska 7
- Nov 3, 2018: Ohio State 36, Nebraska 31
The most recent meeting in 2021 was a close one in Lincoln. However, the previous two contests in Columbus were more one-sided. Overall, Ohio State has won 10 of the 11 contests, and Nebraska’s only win came in 2011.
Sometimes, these games provide a surprise or two along the way. The weather will not, with Mostly Sunny skies and temperatures around 60 degrees. A slight breeze should not alter Ohio State or Nebraska on Saturday afternoon from Columbus.
