For the first time since 2017, the NBA All-Star Game will be in the traditional West-vs-East format, and for the first time since 2020, the Elam Ending will not be used.
The old-school 2024 NBA All-Star Game will take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis at 8:00 pm ET. The game will be broadcast by TNT and TBS. Despite being the “road” team, the Western Conference is listed as a slim favorite in the 2024 NBA All-Star Game odds.

No More Elam Ending Means More Scoring
The game total for the NBA All-Star Game has been raised from 324.5 last year to 358.5 this season. The reason is simple: the league has gotten rid of the Elam Ending, in which teams played to a “target score” during an untimed fourth quarter (24 points more than the winning team had at the end of the third quarter).
With the league going back to a traditional 12-minute fourth quarter, there will be a lot more opportunity to score. The teams’ averaged just 99.7 points per quarter over the first three quarters last year before the fourth quarter saw just 60 points scored during a valiant comeback attempt by Team LeBron.
The odds to win the All-Star Game MVP are available for all 24 players in the game. The top-two favorites are Giannis Antetokounmpo (+650) from the East and LeBron James (+700) from the West.

The third-favorite, Tyrese Haliburton (+750) of the Pacers, will be the player the fans get behind. The previous two winners – Steph Curry (2022) and Jayson Tatum (2023) – are next on the list at +850 and +900, respectively.
West Was Dominating Before Format Switch
Prior to switching to a team captain/draft format in 2018, the Western Conference had been dominating the NBA All-Star Game. The West had won six of seven editions from 2011 to 2017 and 11 of 16 dating back to 2002.

2013 | West 143 – 138 East | 281 |

2024 NBA All-Star Game Prediction
When the game was in a Team LeBron vs Team Someone Else format, LeBron won five straight games from 2018 to 2022, before Team Giannis brought that streak to an end in 2023. LeBron headed into the 2023 game as a sizable favorite, and his track record warranted it.
The ancient East-vs-West history, however, holds little sway on handicapping the 2024 All-Star Game. There is no talent discrepancy on the rosters and the East has two of the last three MVPs (Tatum, 2023; Giannis, 2021).
With the crowd likely to be backing Tyrese Haliburton and the East, the underdogs are the play.
